HTML 5 and Javascript can be used to make video games similar to the DOS era and can even support iPhones. Since, I do not currently have a PC of my own right now, I am looking into designing games with HTML 5 and Javascript. I can even edit the code on my iPhone using one of my free website hosts. Just googling some of the HTML 5 games, this is really cool technology. I understand why it is replacing flash. It allows the DOS era of gaming to live on in the Internet.

I agree with you. This is a new standard "natively" supported by web browsers even in mobile. Way better than external flash components that crash all the time.

I dunno, I really hate javascript... :p
I prefer technology like java with engines like JMonkeyEngine.
This is robust and clean technology.

Not that much regarding the - it is often the case - compatibilty with only 1 specific of Java version (therefore you can end with multiple conflicting versions), and the need to install locally the Java runtime environment... This being said, I don't know JMonkey.

Protip - Javascript is completely separate from Java as far as how it functions goes. It was named that because the language has similar syntax, but Java is predicated on having a virtual machine to run Java bytecode on, whereas Javascript is interpreted.

I'm not a fan of either of them. Razz

Yup, Javascript was named like that just to get more popularity. It had nothing ever to do with Java.

Java is pretty cool because you can focus on functionnality instead of focusing on why C++ hates you.
That being said, java programmers should really learn C++ because the abstraction is so high, they tend to have no idea of how the machine will execute their code.
Things are getting out of hand, I have a big boss telling me that a one shot 1000 lines excel report would take quite a lot of ressources.
Come on, I had a program in Java who outputed like millions of lines for multiple users in real time that run in some shitty server. Sad

JMonkey is fine, the only problem I can find is that it's not that easy for one person to :
- code the game
- make the models/levels
- make the animations for the models
- make some convertion between 3D ressources and your program
