And the days when I was still just a Wolf player and not a mapper --- had no idea of MapEdit or floor codes or 64x64 or whatever. It was fabulous. E5L1 with that turquoise ceiling that could go on forever... E6L7 that seemed like an episode in itself more or less... The gloomy, large hysteria of Episode 2... It's all coming back to me. And I just played the game not a year ago or something (for the first time in a while). I've got so much love for this game, 14 ought years on, it just keeps sticking to me like glue. For about a year or so though I've found it's much more fun playing than mapping, however. For many years I didn't play any mods... It's crazy now. Giving Totengraeber the full 100 once again... Just came to level 18... That shit's eternal. 2013, 2001, 1992... Who the hell cares. Wolf (apparently) refuses to die. Look at newcomers like Gerolf, full of ideas, great maps and good ideas (and great, clear replies on this forum - I still remember when "newbies" went on with the leet speak thing). Lots of love to Wolf from my end - still never got turned on to SoD at all.

German beer is the best. I'm a big fan of Köstritzer, Weihenstephan, Störtebecker, Paulaner and Erdinger. Too bad all of them are expensive. You can get cheap Czech import though. Local beer sucks.

The Czech stuff is usually not half as good as the German equivalent. But hey, at least in Denmark you don't encounter stores full of Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, and Natty Light!

We do have Budweiser as an import. I haven't tried it yet. I've tried some English beers, which were all right... But of course, no match for the German ones. I don't know how well acquainted you are with Polish beer - Tyskie and Królewskie are some of my favorites, and I've only encountered the former in Germany and the latter only in Poland. I can hardly remember what it tastes like, but I knew I was floored when I found myself chugging can after can for the sake of flavor rather than effect (most German/Polish beers have way less alcohol in them than Danish or British beers).

I have to say I enjoy Jack Daniels on the rocks way more than beer these days.

Yeah, you reach a certain age when you stop and think "has it really been that long"? I get those feelings myself from time to time. It's still a comfort to know that people actually still find an interest in this game and its many modifications. I think that's what keeps the community fresh.

Exactly, we can easily convert any of the others into a 'Happy Birthday Wolfenstein' thread and you can write in it each year rather than creating a new one each and every year, it's just not necessary.

**EDIT: Last 3 years Birthday wishes now combined into 1 thread, please use this for subsequent years.

Well, we're still accepting MMC submissions at this time. If we get as little as one submission from two different DHW mappers, we just might have a new MMC release on our hands. But don't look at me; I've already submitted two maps, and there's two more ready for the next mapset to commence. Smile

The likelihood of that is absolute zilch. Even John Romero said he hated making maps for that game which is why he never took up my suggestion on Twitter for doing something for Wolf3D like he did for Doom as he would 'probably fall asleep' while trying to create a level.

I know not everyone can see or appreciate Wolf3D and trying to make something cool and creative with its limitations out of the box. The idea of mapping for Wolf3D in this day and age for people used to Doom, Duke 3D and other classic shooters must seem really archaic and pointless by most people's standards. But hey, at least we're here.

For wolf3d's 25th birthday, I think we should kill off DHW forums... Brothertank, MCS and AReyeP never come here any more anyway, and AlumiuN's discord channel is more amusing. The Dome can also be removed, the font is too small on modern computers and now it's filled with popups. archive.org can find that *** anyway. The Haven forum can live, as long as Joshua keeps making new threads. If Joshua doesn't post there for a month it can be removed too, and we can migrate to OMJ's forum.

It makes sense. One of Wolf3D's themes is capturing valuables from the Nazis.

I actually think that Wolf3D is far more creative.

Although it's technology is primitive, it uses it very creatively. Most modern FPS games are dull and boring.

I actually was considering posting an April Fool's joke thread which would have said that Officer-Michael John has been made the new site administrator of the DHW forums. Smile

In late 2000 or early 2001, soon after I started working with Wolf3D's source code, I made locked door type 4 have an animated texture. It looked like a regular unlocked door, but was locked, and had a computer display with changing green text and the word "LOCK" in larger red text flashing. It also was gray colored (I changed all the steel from cyan to gray.)
