The "Conventional memory" requirement was what really killed it for me. I could understand if it was back when Wolf3D came out, but this was well after Doom and Heretic were a thing ...

That looks very interesting. I like the way the trees are done. Very nice.

Here's something else that drew my attention:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE4DLRQUpMo

While I know there exists a Japanese version of Wolf3D for the regular PC, I didn't know -or remember- that it had been released for this "PC-98, a sort-of-but-not-really DOS PC" the video poster mentions.

Wikipedia elaborates on the specifics of this system:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEC_PC-9801

Thought I'd share it...

Cheers,

Ariel

Awesome clip. Anybody ever beat Episode 2 with just a knife? Is that at all possible?

While it's hardly Episode 2, I did kill Dr. Schabbs and Fettgesicht with a knife while playtesting the MMC Anthology (I think the map was called "Chateau"). It took some doing, and some abuse of the load/save system (especially for Fettgesicht) Very Happy

Neat, thanks for sharing this. I watched the first 3 episodes so far. Having a wolfer talking about their fond memories, level and game design, commenting on what's happening and funny random side things while playing definitely helped keep it interesting to me, especially in the Episode 1 and 2 videos. Near the end of Episode 3 I heard that there might be 4 more episode streams... would be cool if that means Spear of Destiny as well. Looking forward to coverage of the Nocturnal Missions too.

What if I had a Video of me Legitimately finding the AARDWOLF sign in the original Wolf 3D without any cheats, hacks or maps? Would I get a No-prize sent in the mail?

Don't know if this has been posted before http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW2-9Nj1xj8

One of several re-recordings of Wolf music, here it's Enemy Around the Corner played with mellotron keyboard effects and a toy vibraphone... And the clips of Wolf being played - this is what it's all about. He also did a terrific Crimsonesque rendition of Wondering About My Loved Ones.

Fantastic stuff! I love renditions like this. Very Happy When you analyze Wolf3D's soundtrack, the compositions may seems simple at first. But I'm always amazed by how remarkable and recognizable Bobby Prince made those tunes, without them being that complex. Really not that easy to pull off.

I remember this vaguely. Due to its sprite design, I found this one difficult to get into, especially since the first level is little more than an E3L1 hack.

Very true. I enjoy mods that take a different approach, but unfortunately it becomes messy very quickly.

“The Evolution Of PC Gaming Hardware” starts with Commander Keen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y4sv27J6co&t=05m24s then Wolfenstein 3D follows before too long.

This video doesn't really tell you anything you didn't already know, but still - here it is.

Testing old virtual reality headgear on Wolf3D, Deathtrigger, Doom and some other games. I will try to show some more of the direct glasses view in the next video.

I recorded some more (Doom, Wolf3D, Blake Stone,...) directly through the lens for your enjoyment =p Unfortunately the static camera angle is unable to catch the full image.
