Is the Wolfenstein 3D hint manual similar to a comic book? What do you people think? It reminds me of one without speech balloons. The storyline information reads like a comic book in my opinion.

The sketches in the hintbook, as well as the artwork when you beat Spear of Destiny, do kinda feel Comic book style.

I'd say it's a manual with simple comic book elements here and there. Since Apogee wasn't answering to the "needs" of a big name corporation, they got to break the mold and explore formats and ideas that most companies would reject instantly. It appears to be inspired by the mid-1980s, where no company knew for sure what the major "cash cow" of TV, movies, and video games (home computer or gaming consoles) really was, so experimentation with different ideas was strongly encouraged.

I love it myself, too. Sadly, the flesh-and-bone version never made it down here to Argentina. This was 1992 so shipping something in from the US or wherever was not that straightforward as it surely is today, either. So, I had to be content with the PDF version which one can now find out there at a great many places. It's still great. I love that early stages of Id where everything was so fresh and the dudes were making history in the world of FPS, probably without even knowing to what extent.

Best,

Ariel
