I was thinking of just tweaking the randomly generated rooms, but I might just have to start from new again. Those are not good rooms.

What are you doing? I once posted a massive message telling you how to improve and it's all going to waste because you're doing the exact opposite. Using any map generator is a spectacularly bad idea, especially the WDC one. The generated maps will ALWAYS be worse than human-made content and nobody is going to play your mods when they know you're just using a generator for mapping. You're taking a step back. Find someone whose mapping is a notch better than yours, like Officer-Michael John or Sandy or whatever, and learn from their maps.

I am not using random generators anymore. I am designing a Hans Grosse level using my own creativity and not using random level generators anymore.

I obviously can't judge this as a map because it's just a small introductory area, presumably some sort of torture chamber. I have the following remarks to offer:

-small rectangular rooms are the easiest to make, but they get old really fast. Sizes and shapes have to be diverse.
-there's too many objects in one room, remove like half of the hanging skeletons.
-the bones and blood are too symmetrical, toss them about the floor a bit.
-there's no ceiling light at all. Surely the Nazis need to see what they're doing when inflicting massive pain and trauma upon their political prisoners?

Maybe that room was made by random map generator too, but this time he put some objects inside the room and put a locked door there. Laughing

I suggest moving away from rectangles, squares etc. and start mapping more uneven and more haphazardly, and eventually it will amalgamate into something a bit more interesting. A mistake made by many mappers - myself included - is that everything had to be extremely vertical at one point as somebody deemed it "realistic" as if it was a good thing. Map whatever you want; just keep on doing it, even though it seems hard and boring at first. It is very rewarding once you get somewhere.

I am going to do this. I went with rectangular rooms because I was aiming for realism in the map, but what you suggest Thomas no longer sounds boring anymore. I can add a lot of triangle shapes to the map as well as circles. The first room is going to be modified. I like the fact the guard has to open the door. It gives it a puzzle feel. BJ has to ensure the door does not close. The beginning of this single level game involves that. Stairs will be used in this map.

I admit that Wolf3D does rectangular rooms best, but what worked well for me was taking a rectangular and altering its shape. Every one of my mods do this in at least one room for most of my maps (particularly "Operation: Kill BJ!"). You think in a different way than I do, so you can probably change the rectangles in ways I wouldn't think of, and you can do things with your maps I probably couldn't do right. Learn what kind of thinking you do best and expand upon it. Smile

Well... Sort of. At least the middle blue room has some of the things going I was going on about. Of course you can make whatever you want to... I just want to point out that making yet another set of overtly symmetric maps, huge open spaces, predictable battle/decoration etc. is not the way to go. You are quite green in this department and so I just want to point out that instead of making hundreds or boring maps --- take it from me --- begin to perceive your map making skills in this early stage and get away from too many rectangular or cubic rooms; do not necessarily put realism over interesting design - unless that is what you want... I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Obviously you still have a long way to go. But that's ok.

And stay with the 64x64 slate until your skills have improved. Perhaps I am alone in this but I am not quite keen on the whole 128x128 thing. It takes away the immediacy and makes for a unnecessarily prolonged gameplay and sucks much of the life out of Wolf (at least if you are making a classic-type set). Just my two cents.

The new shapes aren't completely rectangular, which is a plus, but they're irregular, which is not. And there are still major mapping mistakes all over the place: one of the doors still isn't connected to anything on one side, there are no ceiling lights anywhere, the Aardwolf sign serves zero purpose.

What you can do is get ideas for your maps by looking at other maps but don't just copy the maps because you know someone is going to play it at the end It will be a mess unless you are just planning on showing images without exporting it

Hmmmmmmmmmmm not sure how you got that idea but I never said he should copy them I literally wrote don't copy the maps
You can look at the maps and get ideas imo it's a good start since he's not going to get anywhere by just making two rooms

Ideas don't mean stealing it's like saying someone who read a book and got an idea for his game making his own story locations and people using his Shocked imagination Shocked

People can get ideas without looking at maps or reading books so what's the point of looking at them or reading them? We gave him enough help about how to make maps, but he is still nowhere cause he still has maps done that has 2 rooms. He needs experience first and looking at 3 maps from different games won't give him experience at Wolf3D mapping.

Depends on who sees it you don't think it's the right way since you have your own way of making maps but others may not have which is why I think looking at other maps can help but there are many ways that can help this is just one of them maybe the help you tried to give didn't work in his head which is why he should try other ways Smile and I posted 3 maps as examples
And it doesn't matter that they are from different games you just need to use your imagination
