I was wondering, does anyone have any clue how to make it before you see the sign-on screen to have a new screen like the Doom startup. It could say on the top you TC name and stuff. Then it could say what files it loaded and how many chunks they have.
Example:

[ My TC v 1.0 Startup ] (This is in a colored box. Maybe Red with White text. it extends over the first whole line.)
Detecting files *.[my extension]
found # of files
Loaded Config file/No config file found

=======================
= This is the Full version of my TC=
=visit : my website for inforamtion=
=======================

Checking Chunks...
[*.MY EXTENSION] 244 chunks (Just an example)
(Repeated for all files)
Starting up... (shows for a while)

and then your sign-on screen appears.
Well that is what I am looking for. Although the chunk thing is not needed it would be cool. Thanks if you code this.

I *think* there's a difference between how Doom and Wolf3D loads sprites and textures.
Wolf3D - load on demand and unload when no longer needed (going to next level)
Doom - load on startup (during the startup screen like you mentioned)

I do admit the Doom startup is nice, but I don't think it'd be very useful in Wolf3D
Why not display the stuff you want on the signon screen itself?
Just make changes to introScreen in WL_MENU.C.

Sorry no code from me. Just an idea.

Replacing the Sign on could be an idea. It just show on the startup all your memory and stuff. I want the start up to display something like in Doom. Not load stuff in any new way.

[ My TC v 1.0 Startup ] (This is in a colored box. Maybe Red with White text (like in Duke3D.) it extends over the first whole line.)
Detecting files *.[my extension]
found # of files
Loaded Config file/No config file found
=======================
= This is the Full version of my TC=
=visit : my website for inforamtion=
=======================
Detecting Memory...
Main = #
EMS = #
XMS = #
Detecting Controllers...
Detected Keyboard
Detected Mouse // Don't show if not detected
Detected Joystick // Don't show if not detected
Detecting Sound...
Detected Sound Blaster // Don't show if not detected
Detected Adlib // Don't show if not detected
Detected Sound Source // Don't show if not detected
Checking Chunks...
[*.MY EXTENSION] 244 chunks (Just an example)
(Repeated for all files)
Starting up... (shows for a while)

Something like that maybe.

Wouldn't this free up some data bytes since the signon.obj takes up data bytes and there is coding in the Source. This way you could remove the sign on and just do some coding.

Remember this should show up in DOS like the quit messages.

Yes and No.... It may free up some memory, but that would depend more on what you have each item say... ie.. Strings take up memory too. That is why if you use the download patch that MCS did up for everyone to use, to save memory, you will find that all of the strings that contain the actual error messages have been truncated (See the Areyep Homepage and MCS's Coding section for the download). Strings can take a large portion of the Dgroup memory, so you have to watch what you do with them.

The sign on graphic that is contained within signon.obj is possibly held in the dgroup, but it's also possible that it is just cached in one time and then released.... So you might actually be increasing memory usage rather than decreasing it with this idea.

Well, anyway, I still would like this way of startup. I have a nice amout of data bytes free and not too much to still be added to the source code.

To save some memory with strings, set them as pointers instead of arrays. Strings eat up A LOT of memory!!!
