Alright, I thought that I might just post to tell people what we (Mr. Wolf, Hair Machine and myself)
are doing with this punisher tc.

Now I know most people are probably going to be expecting a bland shoot 'em up
in which you:

1- tastelessly butcher hordes of mobsters and not really care.

2- say as many cheesy one-liners as you possibly can.

3- have no point to what you are doing at all....doubtless it has something to
do with hitlers reincarnation anyway.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but in the finished version of the punisher,
you will:

1- butcher hordes of mobsters and be thoroughly haunted and suicidally guilty about it.

2- not say anything cheesy AT ALL.

3- have a storyline that is seeped in depression.

Now, this is going to be a cell shaded tc.
However, it's not going to be a humorous one, this is serious.
My idea for the storyline is that:

The punisher is ageing, he has realised
that no one can stop the drug cartels and mobsters that he has waged his war against.
He is guilt ridden as a result of killing an american infantryman in a fire fight back
in Vietnam.......Also, as a result of killing so many criminals.
Although he tries to tell himself that those men dserved to be punished,
he dreams about them every night, seems to see their faces haunting him
constantly.

Tired of everything, he returns to the park that his wife and children
were killed in. He remembers.

So basically, the game is going to be made up of a number of flashbacks,
begining with vietnam and the killing of the GI.

There will even be a level where you get to actually go and get the costume.

Also, as the game pregresses, you learn that Frank is sort of using his campaign
against the cartels who killed his family as a way of getting revenge for
his drug wracked years in vietnam.

As far as coding goes, we are having a number of new weapons
in order to allow people to find their favourite weapon
as frank does in the comic book.
We are having a number of other features coded in, including a really cool
feature designed by Hair Machine......

Well, what do people think of this......well...."Design Doc"?
I'd like to have every ones frank (joke not intended) opinions....

I'll admit, sometimes they can be really fun..
incidently, I've read Bruce Campbells autobiography,
but I'm not allowed to see army of darkness or evil
dead or anything.....bummer, huh?

Okay....Joe wolf has started doing some sconcept
work for some of the new enemies, for one thing...

I tell you, they look pretty bloody amazing... Cool
I've started redoing some of the sprites I had done
before, and the sprites are 99 % finished, so that's all
good.

I'm having a bit of trouble right now drawing inside textures
(like in hotel rooms).....I'm not sure why, but my inside
textures don't come out anywhwere nearly as good
as my outside ones.
It's really been frustrating, but I'm starting to pick
up again now.
I still have to design the floor/ceiling textures for the levels..
we're hopefully going to be having multiple on
each level.

Obviously then, Hair Machine's coding is going very
well too.....he's come up with some ideas and features
which just seem to add these perfect last touches to
everything, It's excellent.

The whole team has come up with some very
cool ideas that have been going towards bettering the
design of the tc.

For the storyline, I've been drawing on
Francis ford Cuppola, Martin scorsese, and
Quentin Tarentino........Also, the film "taxi Driver"
has had quite an effect, as has the author Douglas
Coupland.

The textures for the 'Nam level are nearly finished, and
look great, though I do say so myself.

One problem we have had with the sprites, is that
sometimes, when I import them into chaos edit, they get these
strange stripes drawn all over them. Neutral



Thanks a lot for your offer of help, 'chief, we may be
taking you up on that in the near future.....I sometimes
suffer from something like Writer block, and just can't
draw a certain sprite or texture....it's times like that
I want to run out naked onto the streets and scream for artistic
guidance at the top of my lungs.

Incidentally, you have my permission to be the odd sprite man,
just so long as I'm still the ODD sprite man. Very Happy

What sprites are these then Raistlin. Unless i started pixelling and posting in my sleep i have no idea what you are talking about. Unless this is some sort of a strangely worded invitation to the project ^.^

Well, I've got another quick update.

I've started designing the overall idea of the levels, working on
plots, locations etc.

I figure that most of the game will take place in the streets of
NYC and the jungle of 'Nam, but I'll have some inside
levels as well....maybe also a truckstop level.

I've decided the game should be set mainly around '78, since
gives time for Frank to 've been tortued with anguish for a bit
after 'nam.

Also, the late seventies will give me a chance to inject some
punks....maybe a level set in punk rock club.

On another note, I've been working on designing some of the parts
like in the film "Biggles....joining the 80's", the same feeling of
disrepair. I've even got street groups, complete with a "ghetto
blaster"!!

As far as weapons in the game go, we've got a lot of them.
I know a lot of people hate the idea of weapons just
for the hell of weapons, but we felt that:

A):The Punisher in the comic books uses a whole lot
of guns, and we wanted to keep the feeling of the comic
book.

2) (as Biff would have it): flamethrowers are fun.

and the last reason, Matt's weapons looked so cool I
wanted to have as many as possible, I wanted m60's coming
out of the punisher's emotionally scarred ears.

So far, the weapons list looks like this (all weapons ideas and designs
by Matt, A.K.A Mr Wolf):

1 - boot

2 - pistol

3 - pistol 2

4 - m16

5 - m60

6 - ak-47

7 - shotgun

8 - flamethrower

9 - grenade

10 - uzi

Hopefully, you're all gonna HATE us for this LOL!
