I've been privileged to be a Beta testor for both "Spear Resurrection" and "End of Destiny".... During the Beta phases I noticed different ways of reporting things found/not found and various information we noticed about the game. This included everything from spelling and grammar (thanks to Arielus) to our thoughts about each level and the strategies that we used to solve the various puzzles/traps set for players within the game.

Anyhow, I'm just wondering what people find usefull information when your beta testors are reporting back to you about your game.

Do you want them to be critical of static item placement?
Do you want them to be critical of enemy placement?
Do you want them to be critical of the atmosphere of each level?
Do you want them to be critical of the difficulty of each level?
Do you want them to report on everything?

During SR and EoD I used the following:

On each level I gave my thoughts as to the skill required to finish each as well as a perspective based on what I thought others might think of certain traps and tricks when they played the game. I also gave the following information at the end of each level finished:

Score, Treasure % found, Secret % Found, Enemy % Killed, Weapons on hand, Ammo for each weapon on hand, Health Level, Lives Remaining... like this (and for Chris - This the is the first post for the "Running Ratios" thread that you thought might be interesting):

Obviously, the first pass was just to make sure that the game could actually be completed, then we all went back and played for 100% ratios... Each person tried a different skill level (at least we did with SR).

Anyhow, It would be interesting to hear your thoughts about what information you look for from your beta testors when they are beta testing your games....

Here here BT. Good advice and all.

I would personally want my testers to be highly critical. I'd want them to report every thought they had while playing this game, and anything they'd like to see.
