I know the SNES version sucked and all, but what if someone were to port it but NOT change the graphics. You know like LEAVE the violence in. All you'd need to do would be to change the boss enemies and add new weapons as well as ONE seamless episode. It's possible. I think the SNES levels are challenging but the WHOLE game sucks because let's face it, THERE ARE NO NAZIS and the graphics SUCK.

So are the levels actually different in the SNES version, or are they just the old levels but all meshed into one seamless episode with different coding features? I know that many versions of Doom (for different systems than the PC) have completely different levels. From what I remember in the 3-level demo, I think the mac version of wolf3d had different levels too.

If the SNES levels are different, I'd love seeing atleast a gamemaps file of them ported to the PC. Smile

I had a NEs emulator with DOOM on it but it was totally different. The menu wasnt there you just jump into the game, the guns look shitty and more blocky, the music was all shitty and sdounded like something from BattleToads and more. I think they remade it but it was shit. Ther are plenty of versions of things that dont look good, but not enouhg versions of good things. YEah...

I think the levels are ensentially the same but with a lot of extra crap removed to make them more linear and memory effecient.

The biggest thing I remebert was, like a flame thrower, or maybe it was a rocket launcher, or even possibly both, and rats instead of dogs, BIG rats, or rat looking dogs...

99% of the levels are different (I think) because they are supposedly PC MAC Hybrids. The bosses are different too. The first boss is Hans Grosse, The secod Trans Grosse, The third I think Doctor Schabbs, The fourth UberMutant ,the fifth DeathKnight, and the last Hitler Mecha (Staatmeister in SNES version). Yes there is a flamethrower AND a rocket launcher.

Actually I believe that the mac was exactly the same as the snes as it was the one it was based on, except the mac one has nazi symbols, the guards actually speak german, the dogs are rats in the snes, "because kids should not be taught to kill doggies"haha, and the floor was brown instead of grey, probably because of the grey rats instead of german sheppards. I've thought that it would be cool too to be able to play it in the pc wolf3d engine, because although the mac has good music, it's harder to control where you aim to shoot, and you can't suprise the guards since they are not 3d sprites, thus killing much of the sneaking atmosphere..... the bosse's sprites could easily be ripped from sod with chaos or floedit, it was one big 30 level episode, but you could just seperate them into the original episodes if you wanted too, I personally don't know how to add levels to SOD but I'm sure many of you guys do. The only problem would be between each episode, just like at the end of SOD, B.J. would go back to FDR to get a mission briefing, and the text would scroll up, you could just use a text file if you wanted, also, after Hitler " is killed on the last level, (which I think is a better way to end it personally) it shows a glowing text that gets larger and smaller saying YOU WIN! that would be kinda tough.......

Another difference is that the graphics in the Mac version are a higher resolution; the images are 128x128 rather than 64x64.

The graphics in the Mac were great for a wolf3d game, but something was missing..... it wasn't as gory as the PC either...

What was missing was the same amount of death frames. Maybe two frames used for dying instead of three or four.

No, I didn't mean that specifically, I meant the atmosphere was missing from the game.

Several Wolf3D mods already have more weapons added. Besides, the weapons would seem like a last-minute addition to the game if the levels weren't modified significantly to take good advantage of the weapons.
