I was wondering if others feel like I do about certain added features in mods, whether you prefer to always have a key combination available to turn off the feature. A couple of good examples are the F11 key to turn off shading in "Rising Evil II: Double Trouble", and the backspace-B to turn off gun bobbing in "Operation: Todpfad". I personally like shading, and dislike the gun bobbing, but like to have the option to turn either off or back on!

For those with slower machines, or who merely love the simplicity of the pure Wolfenstein 3-D engine, allow the disabling of floor and/or ceiling textures, like the menu option in "Halls of Stonehenge".

I have listed more in the poll itself. I imagine some people would object to letting people disable some features, as it compromises the "artist's vision", or maybe it's just too much trouble to code. Cheesy Grin

i think if your going to include somthing like shading to a game to increase its atmosphere, its a bit of a waste of time if you let the player turn it off so he can cheat (traps in dark rooms anyone?) A gamma shifter wouldnt be a bad idea tho since it isnt turning the effect off mo rather increasing contrast

Hmmm, interesting poll.

I agree with keeping the creators vision. If something in a game is annoying you that much then i guess you can always play something else!

I personally voted for Cross hairs and Gun bobbing. It's just a personal preference, but I'll still play some mods with them in it as long as the mapping and other features are keeping me interested. I just don't like them enough to include either in any of my mods.

Actually, in cases where the shading makes every part of the level hard to see on many people's monitor's, I'd go against having the shading non-disable-able. Good grief, that's not even a word, Tricob. Blush

Most of the aiming reticles I've seen in Wolfenstein mods aren't worth the distraction of having this glowing thing in the middle of your screen. Crosshairs it is!

Personally, I believe that all options in the game that are added - should be able to be disabled or toggled by the player, so the player can play from the game from an original Wolf3d feeling, to the new exe fully loaded.

So things like: In-game Messages, Crosshairs, Lightshading, Ceiling/Floor Textures, Gun Bobbling, etc.... should be on toggles that the user can turn on/off depending on their system either via a game options menu or via some type of TAB-?? key combination.

Things like: Bosses always face player, Bosses react to sounds, respawning guards, etc... should either be fixed in the game or selectable from a setup menu in the game before the player starts. Once the game is in play these items should not be able to be changed.

This allows the best of both worlds.
