I thought that Wolf3d have Buy mode .

Pistols , SMg, Shotguns , Rifles , Inventory items (kelvar vest , Grenade , Flash bang) etc ...

I know I'm going to take flak for saying this...

But this is Wolf3d....
It's not an RPG....
It's a FPS...
Basically a shootem up style game...
where you pick up things left lying around...
Not finding money, gathering experience, buying stuff at the local tack shop..

I understand some of the ideas that people have tried to put forward are interesting, but I just don't see it fitting in with the real spirit of Wolfenstein and Spear of Destiny. Even Blake Stone, Corridor 7, Rise of the Triad and many others including many of the latest FPS games just don't do stuff like this. It's not Roll Playing.. It's Frag the Fu$%^*!

Anyhow... Just my thoughts...

Maybe this is for a Counter-Strike-to-Wolf3D conversion.

Somehow, I can't see BJ "buying" weapons when he's in the middle of a Nazi fortress... it's not like the Germans are going to sell him weapons just so he can kill them with it. But I guess "what's good for business is good for the Reich"... Laughing ... sort of like that company in Catch-22 that was doing business with both the Americans and the Germans.

Like BrotherTank said, unless you're making a non-Wolf3D-themed mod, it's best to leave out stuff like that.

No offense here to anyone, why'd you attack his idea. His english might not be perfect, but looking at other posts he has made, he might very well be working a counter-strike mod for wolf. In this case I take it's just the engine he's refferring to with Wolf3d.

Anyway if he wants to do it to the original engine, fine, we should not try to kill his idea and interest for wolf. This is a community not a jury.

In my opinion... I say 'Go for it!'

The way he seems to be taking about this. Its obvious that it's not going to be a classic Wolf3D playing style. Have you ever thought that maybe he wants to have his own style? Not mimic Wolfensteins? What if in his story you are (say for example) a hitman on the streets of New York. (hey, it's just an example)

All things considerd I must agree with Codetech84 here.



Now I'm not a coder and know absolute Jack on how to do it. Well, kind of.

What I think would be the best way to do it though would be with one of those grey 'pop-up' boxes and have pictures of the weapons with the price next to them. and then with your little section thing (probably just high lighted text) selevet the gun and buy it. and it would all imediately be updated to your player.

What he is trying to do CodeTech is Mod CounterStrike by using the Wolf3d as his base engine and then asking people to create the features for him because he can't code them himself. He's trying to turn Wolf3d into Counter Strike....

Anyhow... If he wants to make stuff for Counter Strike... I would suggest getting the source from the authors of the game... and then mod from that.. He wants us to program for him and convert the software we have, so he can make his mod for Counter-Strike. He also wants the code converted to allow him to make "Nightmare 3d" mods as well. That one is much closer to Wolfenstein, and possibly easier to do...

I'm not bashing the idea if it's a Counter Strike Mod... I will bash it if is a Wolf 3d mod.. Again, we all have the right to our opinions, and we don't have to agree with one another... The problem I have with this idea in Wolfenstein is it takes away from the FPS - which is really why we all fell in love with the game. As WSJ said... And I completely agree with him when he says:

That is what I was thinking when I made my post. We've had people try to add things like experience and such to the game, but have you seen any mod released that uses it to enhance the actual FPS?? Even Id Software admitted that they removed features from the game because it affected gameplay.

I just don't see how adding these things that are more RPG into an FPS is going to make the FPS more fun to play... I mean...

Anyhow... He can do what he wants... I'm not telling him he can't. I am saying that I don't think what he wants to add fits Wolf3d and Spear... And I'm not about to go off on some coding adventure to try and make Wolf3d into Counter Strike or even NightMare 3d. I don't really see many people stepping up and saying they are willing to do the work for him... It's not that it can't be done... Maybe someone out there in the "Counter Strike" forums or the "Nightmare 3d" forums might be interested in helping him... Oh there isn't one... ??? Hmmm... I guess that is a problem.... Anyone tried asking the authors for the source for those games... ??? Oh yeah... Nightmare is still being sold... and he's not likely to release that... Counter Strike?? Don't know about that one... because I'm into Wolf3d... and the games that came directly from it's code....

Anyhow.. Just my Thoughts...

If that's all MAREK17 wants to do, he can just use the Blood 2 source code instead. The engine is far more compatible with Windows-based media, and memory is not so much an issue.
