Damn, its amazing, there hasnt been a single new thread in this section for a year now! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Amazing considering what a good game Spear of Destiny was. I'd say it was better than the original wolf3d. Im gonna replay the Spear expansion packs just for old times sake now. Smile

I've thought highly of Spear (Mission 1) for quite a while. But the "Out of memory!" errors in most versions just about killed it for me. And it just took too long before you saw much variety. Before Floor 3, you didn't fight anything besides Guards and SSs (not even dogs, which showed up in E1L1 of the Shareware release), and the variety of wall patterns before Floor 4 was less than impressive to me.

I do agree that the variety of Static Object types is much harder to map with than Wolf3D is. Blame the Angel Of Death map on this - Id took about half the object variety out of Spear just to put new types of objects for this one level alone.

I do plan to make a DX version of Spear Of Destiny that fixes the object variety problem. But I don't see it happening in the near future. Sad

Actually, GT Interactive bought out Formgen altogether. I know that GT now no longer exists per se, but what happened exactly to the company buyer seems to have slipped my mind. Sad

I think they were bought out in turn by atari, and then atari got bought out by infogrames. Or was it the other way around?? Either ways, the GT interactive page now redirects to Atari's site.

Atari ain't around anymore, either; they went bankrupt in the 1990s, and was owned by Hasbro for a while. Then Hasbro went under. I think ... Mattel owns Atari now? Confused

Then it's infogrames, which uses the Atari name for brand recognition. Smile

Nope, Hasbro are still alive and kicking.

In 2001 they hit some financial trouble and closed down one of their plants putting about 400 people out of work but they are still around. They have since acquired Kenner and cranium also. Infogrames bought Hasbro interactive not Hasbro.

Here's the Atari story;

1. In 1976 Bushnell sold Atari to Warner Communications for an estimated $28 - $32 million.
2. In March 1998, JTS sold the Atari name and assets to Hasbro Interactive for $5 million.
3. The brand name changed hands again in December 2000 when French software publisher Infogrames took over Hasbro Interactive.
4. In October 2001 Infogrames announced that it was "reinventing" the Atari brand with the launch of three new games.
5. On March 6, 2008, Infogrames made an offer to Atari Inc. to buy out all remaining public shares for a value of $1.68 per share, or $11 million total. The offer would make Infogrames sole owner of Atari Inc., thus making it a privately held company.
6. On April 30, 2008, Atari Inc. announced its intentions to accept Infogrames' buyout offer and to merge with Infogrames.
