People have said in these forums that in the Activision release of Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny and the Mission Packs are included (the cover says "Includes Spear of Destiny!"). But...Where are they??!! I can only get Wolfenstein 3D.

Thanks

Unfortunately, only about half of the Activision releases that were manufactured with the "Bonus: Includes Spear of Destiny" sticker on the cover actually have Spear or the lost episodes on them. Crying or Very sad

Lots of people have been in your situation, and I seem to remember that Activision addressed the problem once they realised. Try emailing their support line and see if they can offer you a replacement. I'm interested myself, actually. Laughing

It's a bit more pricey, but Id also released a large collection that had both Wolfenstein releases as well as all of the Commander Keen releases, and many other Apogee releases. I *think* it was called the "Id Collection", but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Very Happy

E-mail Activision Value support (support@activisionvalue.com) and tell them that your copy didn't come with Spear of Destiny, they'll send you a new copy of the game.

Just a note: Activision's support site refers you to the Activision Value site about this problem, yet the Activision Value site contains no information on the game anymore. They still send out the CD-R (Since I got mine after Wolf3D was removed), but you can't find any information on the site.

I tried this and I received my copy of Spear of Destiny yesterday... and I already have Spear of Destiny!

Cool way to get a great game for free.

Take into account the less lucky sods here who aren't able to freely receive a copy of a game they already have. Sad

I hope this still works, my copy is also missing the Spear files. Damn.

Same here ThreeHeadedMonkey. I already have an older version on floppies and the Super CD version, but I was thinking of asking for this anyway.

For anyone who received the Spear CD-R, I am quite curious to know... does the exe have the Formgen Quiz at the start? And does the exe say v1.4? Every official v1.0 I have doesn't have the Formgen Quiz, and every v1.4 I have does, but I think the Activision version is unique, and that they actually re-compiled it without the quiz.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Activision version you mention is a crack. There's more than one DOS-based utility that'll do that ...

Nah, the signon screen is in the exe (a raw 64000 byte 256-color graphic).
But, I would imagine that removing the Spear Quiz would be a little trickier to hack than changing the wolf3d logo.

Oh yeah, I remember those. We had a program called NeverLock that could unlock around 500 games, but I'm pretty sure it used an external exe to unlock Spear of Destiny. Very handy program though. Saves you from having to keep like 20 books on your desk to actually run most of those protected dos games. It would be pretty funny if Activision used a crack... but I guess it's not any more unbelievable then if they actually took the time to download Borland and re-compile the exe back in 1997 though - lol. Who knows. Or maybe they had some help from ID Software themselves for that? Smile

Who do you think you are to barge into an unrelated thread and say something like this? Just because you are great at writing messages in a timely fashion that require alot of thought doesn't mean everyone else is. I suck at it, and there's nothing I can do about it. Are you trying to punish me for it?

There are tons of messages I still want to reply to, some that date back months. Why put even more strain on my brain? Are you the devil of pain? Maybe you should go walk in the rain, or go play with some grain. How vain. Look Jane, there's a train. Maybe you'll gain a stain. Or go insane. I just dropped my walking cane.

Wow, wow, didn't expect such a reaction What?

I don't know how many messages you get every day that you don't have time to answer (and by the size of my PM box I guess that can't be that much, unless you delete all unread PMs including mine).
I'm just not used for such PM delay. Your PMs are not that long that I'd think you need weeks to answer.
I'm sorry Chris, I know you are one of the best here, most respected member, and I'm ready to give you all the respect you deserve, but I think you are a bit arrogant. I'm a human being as well and don't deserve such treatment. You are not being nice. Even if you're busy more than a Prime Minister.
You keep thinking you'll answer after a month, and things will still be relevant. It's good you're not an operating doctor Smile

I'm sorry, we can either "make up" and forget, or just stop communicating. Your call.

...sorry for the author of this thread. I won't post here anymore. I just couldn't talk to Chris any other way.

I have the wolf/spear CD-R, but I havent executed the .exe file, I just copied the data files to the PC and used a port. well 2 ports newwolf and wolfgl, which both seem to be dead now. Its great that those stpuid copy protect schemes arent implemented in current games no more, was more of an annoyance than servers looking for valid cdkeys. Its also great that, for this version of Wolf3d/Sod, they didnt include a CD-key online check sorta scheme Very Happy Players used to have to keep 20+ books on a desk or shelf to be able to play games, now they have to keep 20+ CDs and switch them each time in order to play their games.

p.s. The CD packing was somewhat of a letdown to me. I was looking forward to a sealed shiny boxed copy with a CD in a jewel case, with a CD with the Wolf/Sod logo, instead of a CD-R in a clear plastic envelope. Surprised

The way the PM setup is - you can get an E-Mail sent whenever you get a new PM *but* you have no choice what E-Mail address the notification is sent to. My IP-based E-Mail (which all PM notifications are sent) is run through Outlook Express, which I hate with a passion. I use O.E. as little as possible, so if a PM *is* sent to me, it could literally *be* months until I know about it, if I haven't been visiting the DHWs forum lately.

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread but I thought I'd let you know I never got my copy (although they told me they'd send it). I got my copy of SoD from the newer XPLOSIV cd-rom release of Wolf3D (it's the Activision version), which also includes the Spear mission packs actually. The Q&A at the start of the game has been removed in this version.

The Steam edition of Spear of Destiny has the mission packs. If you want you can just download it, rip the files, and plop them into your DOSBox/Wolf4SDL/VDMSound/whatever.

Is there an Apogee version of Spear? I've always wondered.

Yes, Apogee was one of Spear's original carriers. A select number of copies was supplied to Apogee, but Formgen was the main supplier. When FormGen was bought out, Apogee continued selling SOD until their copies ran out.

Id sells both Wolf3D games, and you can get these and many others as part of a $70 package, which includes Quake 1 and 2, Hexen, and a number of other Id classics. Sorry if I sound like a commercial, but it's not a bad deal, IMO. Smile

There is No release of Spear with the Apogee Logo No... As Tricob said, they acted as a distributpr, whereas Formgen was the publisher... So it was not a "Apogee" specific release or version...

So basically, Apogee was selling the same thing FormGen was?

And yes, I've been considering getting the id pack from Steam, but I can't get my computer to run the client software (it freezes during startup). No big deal though, since I already own most of the games in that pack.

edit: Beat me to it, BrotherTank.
