Is there a program out there that will let me extract the original IMFs and save them as a MIDI file. If there is it would be a very big help for me.

Most of Wolf3D's original tunes are downloadable in Midi form in numerous websites. Some tunes are missing, though.

Currently, the only program that's the type you're looking for is found in "IMF Tools". I'd recommend Version 2, as this is the one with the fewest problems. The Midi files it extracts usually need adjustment, as they'll require instrumental and octave-based changes for the playback to sound right (usually going one octave higher, and changing to a Bass guitar, Flute, Bassoon, Clarinet, or French Horn). Even doing that, the conversion will still be less than perfect. Sad

IMF Tools and its accompanied programs are all DOS-based, and all run through a command line. Make sure all the IMF's names are less than nine characters in length, or you could have trouble calling them up.

Lastly, the Midi files can be edited with Anvil Studio.

Actually, there's another program: dro2midi, which is based on IMF2MIDI. The only trick is that dro2midi expects files of the .imf extension to be songs of 560 tics and the .wlf extension to be 700. You want to use the .wlf extension for Wolf3D songs.

Bear in mind that the software does have a pretty big bug in it. I was in contact with the author about resolving it and compiled a fixed copy, but I lost contact with him and a fix was never released.

The author just contacted me and said he has posted a new version of dro2midi that fixes the bug. I ran a file that had been problematic and it went through just fine.

I just searched for dro2midi and downloaded it. I must say it works rather well for what I need it for. Thank you guys.
