Well, the explaination may be really simple. I also created 100 pieces of IMF tunes, and yet, I barely use 20-30 (so far, that is). Those tunes MIGHT have been used for something when the project began, but later, it was not used for anything. It might happen that the tune just did not fit anywhere Smile

Funny, I was thinking about this. I know that some of the unused tunes were meant to be selectable in the jukebox, and the "Hitler Waltz" theme plays during the copy protection quiz in Spear of Destiny. But I've often wondered if they were once meant to be used in some other way. Since "Victory March" is a more jubilant version of the score song, my theory is that it was originally intended to play on the score screen if you win the game/episode, whereas the current score song was only supposed to play if you died and ran out of lives.

When I first made Castle Totenkopf, it only made use of existing Wolf3D/SOD music, and some of the unused songs were played in levels. But now I'm replacing all the music with my own.

I have to say I admire a lot of tunes from "Eisenritter"... How do you make those? Is it MIDI or something more relatively new? I think it could be fun to use the same program as Bobby Prince did, giving it a wolfier edge maybe.

Well, I didn't make all of the music in Eisenritter. Some songs came from Corridor 7 (another Wolf3D-powered game) and I don't know what program they used to make the IMF's, but it wasn't what I used. For my songs, I created them as MIDI's then converted them to IMF using DarkOne's "IMF Tools," which was the best utility for this purpose at the time. Unfortunately, you could only make Doom-sounding songs with IMF Tools, and not any Wolf3D or Corridor 7 sounding ones. But Adam Biser later released a MUCH better program called IMF Creator, which makes it possible to not only create your own instruments, but also extract ones from other IMF songs. And I was able to create a few (unreleased) "wolfier edged" songs that way. Smile

The Hitler Waltz could go well for a custom made E3L8 with lots of fake Hitlers and higher difficulty. Brown ceiling and mazes might help there.

In my opinion, the Victory March -- the one which starts with a march -- sounds too much like a Christmas song. Too cheerful.

The Hitler Waltz was actually used in the original ForGen release of Spear of Destiny. It was used on the loading page where you had to type in stuff from the manual in order to play. I couldn't imagine it ever used in a level. Unless it was a level with no enemies on it. (I've always wanted a level like that in a mod, the player would be freaking out and confused...)

Thomas - you'll recall that one unused tune in Wolf3D actually appeared in the High Score Table of "Spear: Resurrection".

One tune neatly illustrates how much differently the IMF playback was written in Wolf's WIP days; there's a tune that's *not* designed to repeat at all, but instead is supposed to stop playing when the end of the IMF is reached. Isn't that "Victory March"? It started out with hard drums similar to what you hear in the last part of "War March".
