I hate me?

EDIT:
Okay... I know this thread was already derailed, so I jumped in to kick it while it was down...

So.

Multiplayer in Wolfenstein 3D... Nice idea. Wished it possible many times myself.

So, what would be required? Would the game need to be rebuilt from the ground up?

IMO, the most practical thing would be some open-source multi-player code in C. And, someone would also need to maintain a server that manages the different online players. My knowledge of Online Multiplayer is a little dated, so I'm probably missing countless details. Smile

I doubt it; more than likely, the players online would be coded in as "Actors" in the game, with a reasonable amount of code changes for those actor types.

There's nothing about you Richter. It's just the daft thing the forum does. If you put the word "you" in square brackets then the word is replace by the person's name reading the post. So, in Hair Machine's post above when you read it, it says your name but when I read it, it contains my name. Wink

This entire thread is starting to hurt my brain. To clear things up a bit I am exploring the possibility of adding multiplayer support to Wolf3d or similar type of engine. A long time ago I came across an obscure website with some screenshots claiming they added basic multiplayer to Wolf3d, but that website along with those screens have disappeared into the void of cyberspace. It will be awhile before I have anything to show but my efforts are genuine.

...But IMO it's much simpler to make Wolfenstein TC on an advanced multiplayer engine (like "SkullTag") - than to implement multiplayer on a Wolf3D engine - as you'll get immidiately all the advanced multiplayer features, game modes etc.

Doom is not a true raycast engine although it does share many similarities. I have experience working with Zdoom, Gzdoom, Skulltag, and Edge. Skulltag has some great multiplayer options despite the movement lag. My intentions are to use a true raycast engine. ROTT looks promising but editing it is proving most difficult. The size and scope of my project does not warrant the use of a doom based port.
