I didn't know where else to post this, so I decided to ask here.

There's a toggle in the latest release (16.1 I think) that enables Wolf4GW compatibility I think. I know already that this function will play out the entire IMF regardless of size, but when I convert it, it creates files of 0KB size. How do I get this problem fixed, if it's at all possible?

Not sure why the file is 0KB. The Wolf4GW format should export the entire song regardless of size, as you mentioned, and also without the length int at the beginning of the file. These IMF files won't play in WinAmp. If you want, email me the MIDI and I will try it, but I make no promises about resolving any bug in IMFCreator. I've all but dropped support for the older VB6 software, which is actually most (all?) of the software on my page. I do hope to make newer versions some year/decade. Very Happy

I'd assume that the Midi file has some sort of (bizarre) command in the Event List before the first note, and that the program is reading it as the "end" of the file. Smile

I was assuming that the file plays correctly in IMFCreator, which might not be the case.

IMFCreator is not perfect by any means. A MIDI sequencer and a bit of editing is usually needed to make a MIDI sound good when converted to IMF.

Some of the files have been edited, but I tried it with many different ones.

The entire song played in IMF Creator, but the files themselves always turned into unplaying 0KB files when I exported them. Also, when finished playing, the files would hold a note, usually the last one played indefnitely, though not immediately after ending playback. I tried importing them with WDC, but the files wouldn't even play there.

-EDIT-

I just tried the process again, I think I may have mistook the file size for the file length. It seems I converted a file that turned into a 51.0KB file with a 0:00:00 length. Even upon converting it to MP3 format, I was treated with the 0:00:00 length, meaning that the file is worthless.

I guess I was hoping to find out how to fix the length of the file instead of the file's size.

Nothing knows how to play Wolf4GW format IMFs. Wolf4GW IMFs don't have a 16-bit int at the beginning to give the player the length of the song because Wolf4GW uses the chunk length instead. So if you're using the Wolf4GW engine, it might still play in the game even if it doesn't play in WDC or WinAmp.

So the problem is in the player not supporting the file, not necessarily the file itself.

Well that stinks. I can't really use the darn things then. Unless there's a way to convert them to an actual format that I can use without losing any of the quality of the song.

You are wanting to make MP3s of them? Or?

MP3s, then Oggs from the MP3s (I can't seem to do it any other way than that). I did have it programmed where I could of used IMFs just a few weeks ago, but the sounds lost their quality, so I'm going with OGGs instead. Only a few of my songs actually need to have the Wolf4GW format, since most of them at this point don't require much changes.

But a few have lost some parts to them that make them sound incomplete. I just wanted to be able to keep their original quality.

Wouldn't MP3->OGG be double lossy compression?
Most sound cards allow you to record your computer's master output mix right inside the computer. You can use IMFCreator to play it and get a good WAV recording from that and then convert it to OGG. You can use Goldwave to do this, I believe.

I probably don't have the newest version, but Goldwave - AFAIK - isn't always helpful in recording playback *if* your sound driver is Realtek. There's something about its setup that's extremely weird, and plays back through separate programs, rather than a program-selectable speaker. But it might just be Windows 7 restrictions on my end. Been awhile since I tried. I know I can't do this on my home computer because I bought an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 and its drivers, for some stupid, stupid reason, doesn't give access like this. I have Realtek on another Windows 7 computer, so I'd have to try it out to know for sure.

I get that too. My cheezy workaround is to just use two computers, and connect a line-in cable from the headphones jack on the computer playing to the line-in jack on the computer recording. Weird maybe, but I already use that way to record live stuff from my keyboard/guitar anyway. Windows 7 fail. Laughing

I tried recording with Goldwave, but the quality was completely borked. But the MP3 to OGG thing works, so I'll just go with that.

I was able to record the "stereo mix" with Goldwave on a Win 7 x64 machine with "Realtek HD Audio"...

EDIT: I did have to enable my "stereo mix" device though. Otherwise Goldwave kept saying "cannot start recording".
