I have the tunes of Wolf3D Shareware ported over to MP3. The tunes use more realistic instrumentals. The tune for E1M9 isn't all that great right now, and it is a work in progress. The download is a good 47 MB, so be warned! Smile

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7407286/Wolf3D%20MP3s.zip

Edit: The ZIP is now 47 MB in size!

The ZIP has been updated. Although the set is nowhere near complete, a handful of new Wolf3D MP3s are added, as well as three new SOD tracks. The issues with the older MP3s have been resolved; everything is close to the right tempo, if not exact.

they sounded more like midi's played with a custom soundfont bounced to mp3 than an imf. a little misleading. still cool though. but a little misleading.

No problem. My main reason for uploading these were just so I wouldn't lose them. But I put 'em here for those who were interested. Smile

I updated the ZIP with a handful of new MP3s, one of which is "U R A Hero", which slipped by the collection for whatever reason. Razz

The easiest way to do that is by renaming them to whatever filenames the mod uses. You may have to re-save them as OGG files before they work with the mod in question.

The music files will probably be a different volume than the mod's sound effects. Watch out for that. Smile

Note that this also isn't the final version of the ZIP file, either. "Funky Colonel Bill" (from SOD Level 2 and 20), "Towering Above" (SOD title screen), and "Twelfth Hour" aren't done yet. This is because the tracks are hard-coded to change instruments in the middle of the track ... whether you want them to or not. This is corrected by removing the instrument changes from the track individually - one instruction at a time - and then repeating the process for every single track (These instructions in the tracks are referred to as "Events"). I actually completely removed all the excess "events" in the "Funky Colonel Bill" track, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

Then there are tracks that just don't sound as good as the others, such as "Pounding Headache" (E2L4 and E2L7). These songs seem to require a lot more fine-tuning than most of the songs in the collection. That was certainly the case with the "Level Completed" tune, where the instruments were all wrong, and most of the tracks were in the wrong octaves. I ended up touching up the song one track at a time, having SynthFont play back the track "solo", and when the work was finally done, I'd repeat the process for the next track, and keep doing so until all the tracks for the song finally sounded right. Not fun, but I thought it was worth it to get the song sounding as good as it did in the end. Smile

Some of the tracks might also work for some of Richter Belmont's mods as well. Smile

Thanks for the feedback. Smile I do have a decent set of speakers now, and I'm now fine-tuning all the instrumentals to have the right volume levels. I also dug up another SF2 for my String Arrangements, as the Titanic SF2 had its crappiness displayed full force when the playback had more clarity. I'm using the Legato SF2 now. Smile

They're the speakers that you recommended - The Creative T3300 speakers. Smile Kind of hard to take a picture of at this point in time; the base is on a stand about twenty feet away while the speakers themselves are on the computer desk. I usually control the volume through the Volume icon in Ubuntu, not the knob on the speaker.

aaw ok if they are my speakers , no need to take pic. thanks for taking my suggestion. my personal preference is that i put only 1/3 of bass on the base and equaliser on the sound card something like this

i also use DFX from fxsound website for better sound quality.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll probably check it out when I'm ready to work more in Windows. Smile The Ubuntu sound interface seems to work fine for me right now, and I can play back audio and video files through VLC, which has its own equalizer.

I suppose I should try Ubuntu 14.10, as I'm currently using 12.04. But I'm in no hurry at all to do so right now. There's lots of reasons for that, but it pretty much boils down to procrastination. Smile

I've had problems finding an ISO that isn't corrupted. I found over thirty links, and less than the half of them worked. When I did try booting it up from a DVD, I couldn't get it to stop freezing. I was still using a PCI graphics card at the time, so maybe the OS was barfing it out. Razz

OT one last time -

I did get Linux Mint working at long last, and I heartly thank you for your help. I'm very pleased with what I see here, and I suspect I'll be moving to this when I'm ready to upgrade my OS. Smile
