I've noticed that when someone uses a spoiler box that when I open it, it only shows 2 lines of text. If someone is posting code in there that might be 50 lines long then there is no way to expand the box any further than the 2 lines which can make things very difficult to read. The only option is a 'select' button that highlights the text. I'm pretty sure that we could do this before where it would open a lot larger.

Anyone else having this issue and is there any way to fix it other than the automatic expand box in your profile settings?

Maybe it's browser related? For me, using Firefox 34.0.5 on Linux and Windows XP, the spoiler tags always open fully.

Your bunny's eye still looks messed up in my browser, btw. Laughing

I see something purple oozing from Chris' wall. Might want to get that checked out. Wink

Dean - not getting this problem at all on my end. I'd say it's the internet browser you're using, or there's a firewall or virus protection that's giving this feature bad data.

That being said, I don't usually visit the site unless I'm in Ubuntu; Ubuntu uses an older version of Flash. There's some sort of bug in the newest version of Flash, and the Windows version of Firefox uses the newer version. The bug causes videos posted in message boards to "jitter" among other things.

I have a feeling Dean is referring to a [code] tagged section inside a spoiler - for some reason when this happens the code box is missing its expand option.

It appears that certain symbols in the message text are giving the message board bad data. There are many times when a url doesn't appear properly, either. I often put the url in a [code] box simply to get it to display correctly.

I have the same issue than Dean, but assumed that we could get rid of it by editing or quoting the post in question then in edit mode seeing the full text....

edit: Ok, I had "Expandable Code/Quotes" set to No (default). Yes looks uglier to me so I'll stick with No.

edit2: Looking at these Profile Settings again is amusing. MSN Messenger is now dead, but I was surprised to see that my old ICQ account from 1998 still works! I wonder if anyone here still uses that, or AIM messenger, or Yahoo, or the forum "Buddy" list button thing. I've been using subOrange theme for like 12 years, but it's getting too bright for my eyes so I switched to subBlue today which seems to have a nice darker frozen feel to it.

edit3: see edit10

The one at this post doesn't work for me in Chrome 40. It's only posts where the content is within a spoiler tag, then a code tag:

::: CODE :::
This,
for
example,
will
not
expand
properly.

I tried both posts; they work fine on my end. I'm using Mozilla Firefox.

I'm not sure which operating system it works in and which it doesn't. I'm currently using;

Windows Internet Explorer 9 - Version 9.0.8112.16421

and it's not working correctly.

When someone posts a code box I have both the 'select' and 'expand' options but when there's a 'show spoiler' box I only get the 'select' option once I have opened the spoiler.

Newer versions of IE are known to have all sorts of incompatiblities with websites out there. Once the newest release was slower than either Firefox or Google Chrome, I swore it away for the rest of my life. It doesn't let me back up my bookmarks, either. No reason I can see to ever use it again. Sad

Well, Microsoft are making a new browser, so it'll be interesting to see if it's any better. Anyway, I'll go install Firefox and see if it works any better on that.

EDIT: Tricob, do you have Expandable Code/Quotes set to yes in your profile? Because they work fine for me (still missing the expand button but fully expanded anyway) when I'm logged out on both Firefox and Chrome, but when I login and have that option set they don't work.

The quotes aren't appearing on my profile, but everyone else's seem to appear. I'd noticed the problem but forgot about it. Confused

I'm not sure what you mean; I mean if you edit your profile there's an option for "Expandable Code/Quotes" - is yours set to yes or no?

Ah, I see; I can indeed not see your signature.

Yeah, that'll be why it works fine for you - if it's set to yes, code inside a spoiler box will have no expand button and will only be two or three lines high.

I actually did try this feature yesterday, and I have to admit I really didn't like it; a lot of things are laid out in a way where that just doesn't look right to me, and in many cases it makes the message texts harder to read for me personally. I now remember trying this option out the first time some ages ago when I first registered.

I suppose it's interesting to me to see why I didn't like it in the first place; I hadn't gone through Assertive Training or anything, so if I did or didn't like something, I usually never bothered to figure out why - let alone explain it. Razz
