What do you use to edit and save 256 color Bitmaps for use in the VGAGRAPH file? Microsoft Paint worked fine in XP but now with Windows 10 it applies its own palette to the file, which doesn't look good in Wolfenstein.

Protip - if you want to ensure that the exact colour indexes you've used are constant, don't use ChaosEdit to import them. I tried using some System Shock textures with the appropriate palette, and despite the original BMP being 8-bit, ChaosEdit decided to import it by attempting to re-palettize it rather than just putting straight in. Normally this isn't really an issue, but in System Shock the first 32 colours are used for palette cycling, meaning that if it tried to use them instead of the identical non-cycling colour you'd end up with weird shit going on everywhere.

I use PicPick, then I import the image to ChaosEdit to normalize it and possibly re-export and rework

I work with Ms Paint (XP version, there is a way to install it under Windows 7 instead of its editor as editing default tool, just google it)
Also 2 very useful tools for me are RecolorBMP and SpriteMaker (my holy trinity)
