Does it bother you if Officers and mutants are in the same fights?

I think they work well together myself, as the slow movement of the Mutants and the fast movement of the Officers make things seem more balanced when they fight alongside each other. That being said, it's not absolutely essential for a Mutant to be with an Officer in the same room if you want the speeds balanced out. A brown guard will work just as well ... even if he is slower on the draw.

It's certainly not bad mechanics-wise. Officers in general are an interesting gameplay element with they unique combination of significant danger and low HP. I'm not sure what would be the best strategy for dealing with officers+mutants, since both are types that generally should be prioritized due to their speed (especially the speed of movement and attack respectively). I guess retreating to make the officers come first would work? In any case, that doesn't sound like a bad coupling.

Then there's the thematical aspect of default wolf3d officers & mutants. I suppose using mutants with officers isn't much different from using mutants with other normal soldiers, though the officers do seem to be the farthest from mutants on the "grittiness" scale of sorts. Since being an officer would imply rarely frequenting dungeons and such, unlike being a guard.

Nope officers + mutants wouldn't disturb me design wise. Gameplay wise they could hurt me of course.

I like seeing them in the same fight. It gives the feeling of the openness of E6L10 and Spear levels 12-15, the fact that you've progressed so far in the game that the meddling of enemies is imminent. I love it. Even in mods like Assassinate Hitler, Schabbs 2000 and John Bucksnort mods where officers and mutants mingle with every other guard from the get go there's still an air of excitement and full-on combat.

Interesting question. There have been numerous perspectives on this posted in the Mapping Mania section.

I generally do not pair officers and mutants, but have no problem pairing mutants with guards and SS. Some people hold strictly to the idea that mutants should not be paired with any other enemy type, which I don't go that far.

I don't think mutants were paired with other enemy types in the original game at all except for in E6L10. Somebody correct me if I am wrong on that. In SoD however it was a lot more common to see mutants with other enemy types.

I don't think I've paired them often myself - but they're certainly an interesting combination. Don't really know why it would bother anyone, except if they're against pairing mutants with human enemies or something.
