Well, we've finally managed to get together another MMC (even if the 'month' part of it is rather irrelevant Razz). Considering there were three maps done about a month ago, the fact that the final tally is twelve maps is rather impressive.

Grab it here!

If a moderator would be kind enough to add a poll to this post, the maps in order are:

Last Ride
Nazis' Song
Flavorless
Blah
Movement
Prove Your Worth
Gates
Wash Your Hands
Planetside
Before The Dawn
Classic Approach
Hide N' Sneak

PS: The EXE was compiled with a very new version of GCC; if anyone finds that it doesn't work on something that it really should work on, please tell me and I'll see if I can find an older version of GCC to compile with (for example, I know it won't work on Windows OSes before XP).[/b]

Finished it! An interesting set of levels indeed.

Using the "Spoiler" feature, could anyone tell me how to get past the first room of Level 12? I'm absolutely stumped. Thanks. Smile

As soon as you enter the level, turn around and flip the switch behind you. Move along with the wall to hide from the SS. It worked for me.

Thank you to whoever put the poll up Smile If possible, you might also want to hide the results until the poll is finished (the 14th, perhaps?).

It looks like map 5 turns off the contest mode - the state from previous level is retained and Tab+W stops working. Fortunately it's not an issue if one just starts a new game and warps to it right away.

You're very welcome!

Maybe I am not following, but the results are indeed hidden. At least on my end, all I can see when I click "Show results" is the number of people that voted, and the number of overall votes submitted (1 person voted and 3 total votes in as of this writing), but not which maps have received votes. Would you please clarify this for me?

The poll was set up to run for a whole 30 days (I think that is how we used to do it back in the day but I may very well be mistaken), but changing it to run until the 14th of the month is, I believe, doable, though the options I see do not specifically ask for an expiration date, but rather number of days. It could still be done, though. My concern is such a voting period might be rather insufficient for some folks to play the set and thus cast votes (some people will only vote if they have been able to play -and finish- each and every single level, for example, and this time it is 12 maps we have in our hands). If I recall correctly, we unfortunately ran into this in the previous round, in late 2014. However, if the majority feels the 14th is what we should aim at, then I can change it. Whatever the consensus is, I am fine with it.

Best,

Ariel

I've updated the package to put map 5 into contest mode Smile

I just saw "Show Results" and assumed it would show them as they currently are rather than just the number of votes. My bad. >.<

As for the time, 30 days is probably fine.

I've updated the package again, this time with a fix to Planetside to make getting 100% possible. The author sends his apologies.

You make me glad I haven't saved any games with that map yet. Smile

No dice, I'm still getting killed. I'm just going to have to take a break from this map. I still have several other maps to conquer in the meantime. Smile

When you hit the switch, wait for the pushwalls to move to you, then after the first one starts moving back, move with it (or the next one) such that you're hidden from the massive number of SS (Wilhelm will probably still be alerted, but this isn't an issue). For the second set, you need to move behind the furthest of the three walls such that the closer two keep you hidden from the next two sets of SS then duck into the small alcove on the left once you're past them.

Thanks; I'll try that. This is a good time to check it out again, as I just completed one of the other maps. Smile

I have completed a first runthrough of all the levels. I did not look for perfect ratios, but will do so in my second runthrough. A very good package overall with a great number of maps and, as it was to be expected, quite a nice variety of styles and approaches. People liked those moving pushwalls I could tell! I have my three favourites already, but since we have until the end of the month to vote I will hold off on it a bit in case I change my mind (which might not happen but I won't rule out the possibility). At least, until I finish everything with perfect ratios. And if the deadline is too nigh then I will vote taking into account what I have been able to play up until that date. I am taking down notes on the levels so that I can share my thoughts via spoiler alerts once we know this month's winners, too.

Thanks and good luck to everyone who took up of their time making maps for this and thanks to those playing the set and voting for their favourites as well. My hope is that we will keep seeing these sets released in the future!

Cheers,

Ariel

I hope so too, Ariel! It's been a while since the last one, but this set really is another reminder that we have some fantastic mappers in this community. Whether they kept it close to the original, used every feature, or displayed their own unique style... there's always something interesting going on in these maps. And that's why these sets are great! Smile

Finished the set a second time now. I got 100% ratios in some levels and got close in others (but really far in one in particular). By now I believe I know who did some of them based -primarily- on the style; with some I am in two minds (meaning two authors), and with a few I am really unsure (they might even be by mappers I had never played anything from prior to the release of this set). I like it that the latter is happening! Will be really interesting to see who actually did what.

I am still keeping notes on the levels to share once we know the results. And I will be voting soon, too. The three favourites remain after two runthroughs, though now there's a fourth one that I came to appreciate more once I spent more time on it looking to perfect the ratios. I will have to play things a third time, it seems...

Cheers,

Ariel

I believe I know which one is yours, Ariel ... and that's the one I'm playing right now. I'm enjoying everything it has to offer me, and the map's type of strategy is refreshing to me. Of course, that's all I can comment about the map at this point in time. Smile

I just finished up playing through the June 2017 mapset (aside from anything I did myself). Two maps were tied for third place (and they appear to be by the same author), but since there was a maximum of three votes, I only voted for two maps. And I've got to admit, next to everyone else's maps, the areas you find my elevators in seem very underwhelming to me. Hats off to everyone for making their maps wrap up with a satisfying conclusion. Smile

Less than 15 days to know the results as of this writing. Good luck to everyone!

It looks like 10 people have voted now, which is an improvement over the last time (Q2 2014, where only 7 people submitted votes). It is really nice to see what appears to be an increase in the overall interest in this thing. There's still a couple more days before the poll expires so we might even get a few more votes!

Cheers,

Ariel

I recall that ten years ago there would often be a significant wave of late votes over the last day or two. With 11 people voting so far, we are perhaps on the way to match the level of activity these contests used to have.

Thanks.

Just finished playing the game. A very good set. Very well designed levels of different styles and each offering a lot of variety and unpredictable and challenging situations including creative use of the new features, some of which I can't remember having seen before.

It's hard to decide which levels to vote for but I'll make sure I get around to it before the time runs out. Smile
