Those of you who don't like borrowed graphics, cover your eyes... Shrug Think Sarcastic

In my spare time (by that I mean between work and my more involved mods) I'm working on something I call the "Dark Forces add on" for the original full version of Wolfenstein. Since I don't have time to do levels much to start with, and want to devote all my efforts in that direction to my existing mods, this will be just a graphics pack that will convert the original Wolfenstein graphics to those of the "Star Wars: Dark Forces" FPS. I'm doing it carefully so that the layout with the new sprites and walls will still "make sense" with the existing maps and stuff of the original Wolfenstein. I'm also changing the weapons and enemies, obviously. Things are still a little up in the air, but here's what the switches looks like they'll be in that department.

dog - torture droid
guard - storm trooper
SS - imperial commando
officer - imperial officer
mutant - trandoshan
hans - probe droid
schabbs - gran
hitler - 2 phase dark trooper
otto - dark trooper ?
gretel - undecided
fatface - Bobba Fett

Anyway, that's all up in the air still, like I said. Note that this is NOT the same as the cancelled and re-cancelled "Yodastein" project...that's still cancelled...this is a project of a much smaller scope, but it should still be cool...as a Star Wars fan, I feel it is my duty to create this add on, and hopefully open the door for folks who feel compelled to make mods with the add on graphics down the road for Wolfenstein. No date is set for it's release yet...I don't like release dates...Very Happy

Go ahead monk, I'm looking forward to seeing a SW Tc for Wolf, it would be a nice change of pace, plus I never got the chance to play the original Dark Forces game so it would all be new to me.

The original was quite excellent...it operated a lot like the Duke Nukem' engine, but with a different "feel" in a lot of respects, and many different features. The game reminded me of a cross of Duke 3D and Delta Force, because it's very mission based. The good thing about all that is that since each missions takes place in a totally different location from the last, there's a HUGE variety of terrains and locations for missions to take place in. Everything is very true to the Star Wars universe, and best of all, the story takes place during the golden era when Darth Vader and the Empire were still running at ful force (no pun intended). Since the graphics are very close in size to Wolfenstein sprites, it should be easy to capture the same "feel" as the original...but if you ever see the original in the store (it should be pretty cheap by now), I'd suggest giving it a whirl sometime... Cheesy Grin

I have got 'Dark Forces' here... It's definitely one of the best games of its type ever made. I agree with Majik when he says the game is quite faithful to the 'Star Wars' movie series... I absolutely love George Lucas's still-to-complete novel, and thus this game just can't be disliked. Undoubtedly, a must-have for lovers of FPS games...

Ringman, go get it. You won't regret it, believe me.

I might grab a copy from ebay, then. I've seen some cool mods out there for it and I have played the demo. It's cool how the ships are actually 3d and such and it be nice to see what the Dark Forces community is like.

This project sounds cool!
I used to love Dark Forces - I bought it when i went to Florida for a holiday
it was $20 - quite a bargain. I had played the shareware and loved it.
I got up to the bit where you fight the Rancor but then I lost the game.
I can never find it i think it was lost when i moved house.
Very strange...

You should get together a few people- you can then code Thermal Detonators!

That would indeed be cool...unfortunately, at this time I'm just making an add on to replace existing artwork and sounds, not change the coding...if I were going to make an actual mod that was supposed to be a different game, though, I would definitely look into that...the detonators are cool...Very Happy

I'm interested in seeing how this mod turns out. I've never played Dark Forces, but I've always wanted to. All the modern star-wars games are just "Ohh I got teh lightsaber lets get teh st0mrtrooopers!!11" I always thought that the whole Han Solo blaster action stuff was a lot cooler.

EDIT: Ah! I didn't notice this topic was quite so old and dead. Sorry for bumping it up Embarassed

Well , why not to use AT-ST as one of the Bosses? many sprite are done both in Doom and Dark Forces modding communities.
