...it's become a popular trend to use the WOV status bar which I painstakingly put together and not ask me permission or give me credit for it... fine. But can't you guys AT LEAST use it properly??? I mean, look at this!

Those BLUE images do not go well against the BROWN status bar! And they're not lined up, either. If you're going to use the status bar, can't you at least do some graphics changes to make it look nice? And if you're not willing to put in the effort, why not just keep the old status bar? Why make things look messed up with the WOV one?

Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting... I just find this kind of "interesting"...

A little bit of work with a decent graphics editor like MS Paint or Adobe, or paint shop pro, and you can make some great Staus bars and "parts". Then all you have to do is insert the new items with Flo-Edit and you are off and running.. Razz

That is right! The WOV status bar is used suckily everywhere but WOV. WOV 2 and 3, man, why would Sandy even dare make it with out doing it properly at least. But still, poor WSJ cannot made a WOV 2 now. Sad Netherless WOV 1 Full version. Crying or Very sad

Yeah... at least there probably wouldn't have been a WOV 2 anyway even if I'd been able to finish WOV 1. But then, who can be certain?

@Ringman: ROTFL Laughing And replace BJ's face with a yellow smiley face and move it over to the left so it overlaps the score display... And replace all the red numbers with white cartoony numbers... Cheesy Grin

Prehaps you could finish WOV and then pop a mod in their faces! WOV2! That would rock. And then pop a WOV3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10....... you get the point. lol Laughing

Nothing says, "I had nothing to do with designing the status bar for this project" like using it sloppily like that...I can see using it if you used the original code and stuff for the project to make your mod, but it really makes no sense to plug it into a new project if you're not going to do it all the way...that's like taking half of one of WSJ's SS guys sprites for a character, and then using the original ones for the rest of that character...it would look dumb and out of place, and so does doing this.

Why the obsession with WOV, guys? WSJ has cranked out some phat mods that had nothing to do with the WOV demo, and all indications are that he's moving on to other things. Yes, there are some very cool elements in the demo, but if COTS was any indication, there are better things to be discovered in newer unrelated projects...I don't really think we should ever espect to see a WOV 10 made (not by WSJ, anyway...)

I found it very coincidental that no sooner did I change the name of "HOS: Dead Reckoning" and release it as "HOS: Special Edition" that the announcement of a new mod appeared called "Dead Reckoning" that happened to feature several HOS graphics...coincidence, or opportunism? Doesn't matter that much to me either way...just found it odd...

You guys speak for yourselves... I can't wait for Conflict In The Fatherland II: Special Second Deluxe 1337 Edition v5.0.9 by Phr33kyBi@tch89 Wink

@Majik: Before the Dome went down, there was some news there about Sandy making HOS:SE II or something... Even Brian put some exclamation points on that one Cheesy Grin Probably ridiculous to ask, but were you or ack or anyone else contacted regarding this, or is this person yet again just using more work without permission ? I would think you'd be able to email and request them to abandon this project since basically it's your stuff...

I doubt it ever even occurs to Sandy to ask permission when using other people's stuff. Think

I often wish I had the ability to crank out high-quality mods that fast... Laughing ... but not many are gifted with that ability ("quality" often means sacrificing "quantity", and vice versa), and I certainly don't have it... though there are some people who think they have this ability (*cough*Sandy*cough*).

Good point... that's pretty much what it amounts to, and that's why I'm kind of puzzled that people would think using the status bar partially looks OK in their game. I mean, why bother changing the status images at all? Shrug

Maybe all these people have a special colorblindness, where blue looks brown...dunno...Laughing

@Ian, Sandy never asks...he just does. The best I get out of him is requests for me to send him sprites and stuff, but if you ever do give him an inch, piece by piece, he'll ask for every character and sprite in your game (if he's gonna' take my stuff, why not just rip it from the game?). I'm not so annoyed by him modding sets that have been out for a while like HOS:SE...what really gets me is when he took the enemies from HOS:SE BEFORE the game came out by stealing the images from some animated GIF's I had on the page for the game...him and I had some words after that, and since then, he's always asked.

I guess maybe it should bother me more, but it happens to a lot of folks (including WSJ), and very few wolfers will ever turn to one of his projects in place of the one where the material originally came from, and I'm just assuming the case will be the same for his HOS:SE set. Actually when he released "Dark Catacomb" right after HOS came out, he combined elements from HOS and Operation: Heimzahlung, and the results looked horrible (most of the enemies he stole by taking screenshots and cutting the enemy frames out). I actually got a good laugh out of that one, so some good does come from these spinoff mods sometimes I guess...Laughing

Ooh, I've got to check that one out! HARHARHARHAR Laughing Laughing

Well, at least he wasn't "color-blind" enough to use pink Nazis in his mod. Cheesy Grin (since the Heimzahlung Wehrmacht soldiers use a different palette, they come out pink in the Wolf3D palette.)

They're grayish-green, like the uniforms of the German Army in WW2...

I didn't need any of the bright pink colors in Wolf3D, so I picked those colors to be replaced with the new green ones... that's why they look pink if you're using the Wolf3D palette.

I'm 99.9% positive it's a "he" (Sandy, that is), from all indications in our email correspondence (which is usually pretty limited...he/she emails me in Spanish because I replied to one of the first poorly written English emails from them in Spanish, and they assumed I'm fluent). I don't remember why I believe this, but I had some profound revelation a while back. Plus, I'm psychic. Very Happy

As funny as it sounds, I imagine that WSJ's use of the "pink" colors when designing his Heimzahlung soldiers has probably detered a lot of super lazy people from borrowing them straight out of that project. I thought it was a great concept, and a great game, and if you haven't played it, you should (it inspired me to create "Operation: Letzterschutz").

If anyone were to try to recreate enemies from EOD using whats on the site, they'd still have their work cut out for them. The best they could grab would be four frames of Ott Von Thug walking, and everything else would have to come from one frame. Plus, it looks like a lot of the pallette stuff has been changed for EOD like in Heimzahlung (at least on a couple of things). Plus, I think the community would chastise them into submission, and their copycat project would go ignored. I hope EOD is "edit proof", at least in the beginning, so we're not flooded with an army of clones five minutes after it comes out. Nothing makes me want to spew more than that...

Shocked @ WSJ's screenshot...Aaagh! The dreaded "Tenth Floor"! Oh, the memories are flooding back to me!! Laughing

Just curious, aside from all the stealing and such, how is Sandy's mapping skills?

About average...the maps usually aren't very challenging, but they're okay. They vary in size from level to level, some being super small, and some fairly big. You're always better off playing the original set the material came from, though...he rarely uses it as it was originally intended, and it often looks out of place...

Thanks. I'm glad you were inspired by it, because Operation Letzterschutz turned out to be an excellent mod in my opinion, and I think its level of quality surpasses that of Heimzahlung.
