I now have Darkwar, and it runs extremly slow in WinXP. There is no sound or music. I found an openGL port, but it is only the source, and since I'm retarded when it comes to coding, I can't use it. Does anyone have any info on a compiled .exe, a program that will let me play ROTT in windows SMOOTHLY with SOUND, and with or without openGL???

I have one that works excellently with a few very minor bugs. I'd give it to you, but I've decided I'm going to blackmail you into doing stuff for me first! Mwahahahahahahaha!

Seriously, though, I do have one, but I honestly forget where I got it. It came out like, a week after ROTT's source was released and I haven't seen it since.

Believe it or not Adam, I found all of those links today, every single one!! But none seemed to offer what I was looking for. The 3drealms forum thread I looked over first, thinking that would be a good place to find some info. The www.apogeegames.com link no longer exists, that site has been sold by 3dRealms, I guess the days of Apogee are truely over. Thanks for the help anyways, maybe when 3DR makes a new batch of ROTT CDs to sell on their website, a Windows patch could be created.

@ Zero X. Diamond, you want something in exchange for a win port? No problem, it's worth it to me for some up to date ROTT gibbery! Tell me what you need and I'll see what I can do.

I did try the ROTT shareware awhile back and it didn't run too bad. I think I might have just used VDMSound or DOSBox.
So, like Ariel mentions, you might try that route.

Heh. I found a few versions of SDL.dll on the net, but they give me this error:

The procedure entry point SDL_SetModuleHandle could not be located in the dynamic link library SDL.dll.


Do you happen to have the version of SDL.dll needed to run this port? In the meantime, I'll analyze the exe in more detail and keep looking at the other ports posted; just for fun. Here's a neat page: http://www.libsdl.org/index.php Smile

you did post something wrong with link, 'cause I got an error "404 not found" Shocked --- so you need to test it for yourself.

Their site was http://www.apogee1.com and Apogee is not gone. 3dRealms is a part of Apogee Software, Ltd. They are still Apogee.

EDIT: I know the origins of Apogee, I was around to witness their birth!! Although, 3Dreamls started as a 'subsidiary' devoted entirely to fps developnment, Apogee officially changed it's name during development of Duke3d, and other games.
