I know Majik made a post elsewhere about this, but for those who are not watching the regular news string, I have finished "Operation: Mutant Strike". I have sent it to Brian, but if you would like to download it before it is on the Dome, copy the link below and paste it into a browser window to download. I would like to know what you think of it since it is only my second project ever, and I didn't do most of Hunscheisse. Cheesy Grin

Brian posted the set on the Dome, so I'm going to delete the copy of the zip off of my server...the link to Brian's download from the Dome is at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/omsfinal.zip. Thanks to Brian, as always, for hosting the mod, and for running the Dome in general. It's definitely appreciated! Very Happy

* shock me out of black hole * Laughing That's very good TC, played at first and second levels, there is one of few bosses look like it comes from BS or something like that.

I will judge it after I finish my homework (ATS gave me more homework Crying or Very sad ) and will add them to TC's 25 top listing later.. I always worry about all TCs on listing will be in big surprise if EOD beats all of them. Shrug

Dum omitted a couple of small things in the manual that I'll mention here...

Possible Glitches

- the occasional crash of the game, caused by too many projectiles released by "hitler ghost" replacements. The best way to avoid this is to get rid of them before they spawn too many projectiles. This didn't happen very often when I was testing, but can occur on rare occasion when there is a lot of distance between you and the enemy spewing the projectiles, allowing more to be fired before the initial ones have hit a wall and vanished.

- sometimes with the animated sprites, some of them won't be animated. It's just because of the way they were done for the game, based over Pac Man ghosts, and there's nothing wrong with your PC. There was no rhyme or reason to which ones did this when when we were testing, but it won't affect gameplay.

Additional Kredits

- To CANONIR1 (I believe it was him) who sent me a modified machinegun pickup that I gave to Dum to use in the project. Thanks for the contribution!

I think that's it! Glad you guys are liking it so far! I've really enjoyed it myself...good work, Dum! Very Happy

Thanks, CANONIR1, but I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it...it's hard to comment on the game I guess without mentioning some of the enemies...but you are indeed correct, Howling Wolf...there are quite a few mini bosses in the game...only three enemies considered to be real bosses are at the very end...

heheh. Glad you like the "surprise" mutants. I thought it worked pretty good. An award would be nice, but it's a little too early in the month to think of that. There have been some good sets released already like Paderborn by Lakota Bucksnort was very good (and also about a lot of mutants). I know sometimes Brian gives multiple awards if there are several good sets, but only time will tell how good this one is. Thanks for the feedback so far, and feel free to keep it coming! I'm pleased so far, even more than with Hundscheisse. Very Happy

Argh! Did I not get rid of that?!

EDIT: Change "need" to "not" so the sentence was what I meant to say and actually made sense.

I sent the update to Brian (thanks, Adam). If anyone is having trouble with the "hitler ghost" enemies crashing your game, the updated exe should fix it. However, if you're past level 5 (which is really the only place I've seen it happen) without incident, I'd hold off on downloading the exe update, as I don't know if old saved games will work with the new exe or not. I just sent it to Brian, so it probably won't be on the Dome till tomorrow...no worries... Cheesy Grin

Cool...I gladly stand corrected. Thanks again, Adam...I also sent an updated manual file that just has the extra credits that Dum forget in the first zip manual...of course, now it has the "glitch" section too with the nonexistent Hitler ghost glitch, but folks should just ignore that if they don't encounter it... Embarassed

This is vaguely reminding me of the release of OL...where I sent it in and then right away discovered those map glitches I'd overlooked...coincidence, or just bad karma for anything related to OL? Very Happy Oh, well...at least it's fixed now...

The zip now has the updated exe and the updated manual (uploaded about 1am Friday Oct 8 - UK time). For those who already have the game and just want the new exe, it's at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/MUTANT.EXE

Saved games from the earlier exe do work with the new one. Smile

Thanks, Jackal! I appreciate the input in a big way. I really tried to think through on this mod what hasn't been done a million times already. I know there are lots of mutant based mods, and a lot of games that use some of the graphics that I have used, but the theme and new character is what I was hoping would help make it a little different, as well as different level style from Hundscheisse. My hope is that the finale of the game will blow players away. The final two boss levels before 10 were done by ack (thanks, ack!), and they up the challenge a bit before the end, but in a good way. Kyo, if you beat the game, PM me and tell me what you thought of the finale.

Thank you to Brian for the updates! And thanks to Adam for creating them. I thought we had everything covered before release, but stuff pops up sometimes. Hopefully that will be the last of it. I am glad though that the saved games still work with the new exe and you don't have to lose your progress.

I forgot to credit WSJ for the table sprites with the zombies on them. Those are his doing, or at least I got them from a mod he made - I am not sure who made them originally. I hope you don't mind I used the sprites I did from your mods, but I started trying to draw similar things and discovered you had done it already and it looked excellent. I was inspired by Project Eisenritter to do something more "mutanty". Cheesy Grin

Actually, I think those operating tables came from Blake Stone. And no, I don't mind that you used those graphics, so no need to worry about it. Wink (BTW, there are lots of graphics in Project Eisenritter which aren't mine. Back then, I wasn't very talented... Blush )

EDIT: I didn't see ack's post.

I just assumed you drew them all also, so I guess that's a common mistake...it doesn't matter, though...what does matter is that you used them well, and they really looked good in the project you used them in...I'm a little confused, though...I used the same editors as Dum does, but I couldn't open Eisenritter with any of them, so I'm not sure how he got those tables (from COTS maybe?). Man!! I've got to play this Blake Stone some day...I keep seeing all of this cool stuff from it, and yet, I've never even played the demo...

The Bucksnort series looks pretty expansive...I read every single post of all of Brian's archived Dome news updates, and there were a heck of a lot of those "Mutant Maker" mods mentioned. I wouldn't know where to start...but I've got time to play some of the older mods now, since I'm taking a REAL break from modding for a while... Cheesy Grin

the mutants are fun every now and then, but you need a break sometimes. Sadly, I'm not taking such a break.

I had plans for more I wanted to do with this game, but there was only so much I could fit into one ten level mod. There will be another, though. I am working on a sequel (that I am really making, unlike the Hundscheisse games) that will also have ten levels, assuming I can get a little help. I like the sprite and graphic set I used, as well as the walls, so if you are a decent mapper and like the look of the original, let me know. This is a serious project, not another Hundscheisse trilogy, but Majik said he is burned out after doing his one level from the first, so I have no help. Five levels is the most I can realistically do myself, so if I can find volunteers for five more, this thing will happen.

My damn Yahoo mail is still not working. If you want to volunteer, post here, or email majik (his email is at the bottom of his profile). Very Happy

I agree...I've really enjoyed it also...incidentally, I AM helping with the sequel, just not with the maps (at the moment). I am assisting with graphcs and sounds like I did before, and I helped with the story (I did a bit with the first one, but the plans were much too extensive for one game, and there's a "loose end" at the end of the first game that was sort of asking for a possible sequel). I'd really like to see the follow up come out...and I assure all of you who are familiar with the Hundscheisse fiasco that this is a lot different...both Dum and I are actually doing a lot of work on the second installment of OMS, and it will come out someday...but like the first OMS, we waited until a decent amount of work was done on it before even mentioning it...

Any mappers out there with some time and talent, don't be afraid to speak up if you're interested in helping...I'd love to see this game come out myself someday... Cheesy Grin

Hello, everyone. My name's Allen. I'm new here, but I've been following all kinds of Wolf 3D mods for the past few months, and I fell in love (Well, not really!) with some of the authors.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say I think "O:MS" is fun and quite original as well (I got to level 8 within a few hours because I wanted to see new features). The WTF factor, provided by info boxes displayed AFTER I finish a level, is worth the download time alone.

The dormant mutants feature is quite effective. I can't think of other Wolf mods who use similar features.

The enemy profiles are well written, too. If you could send me the complete enemy guide, I'll be glad. Enemy design is an important factor of Wolf 3D, and quite a lot of FPS games, in my opinion.

Playing a female agent is also a refreshing change, but being based on Hans Gross makes her
slightly groutesque. Oh well.

My only complaint is the use of fire barrels (who are supposed to replace Pac-Man ghosts, right?), which were extremely annoying, draining your health so quickly. But that's the mark of a good trap, isn't it?

Well, I just wanted to share my opinion. Can't wait 'till I get to Vulcan Raven.

Yours faithfully, Allen.

P.S - Sorry about my bad English.

Welcome, Allen! Good to have you.

Glad you're liking OMS...and glad that you've enjoyed some of the new features it has to offer. Dum and I are working on a sequel at this very moment, partly because of all the positive feedback the first one got, but mainly just because we're both very passionate about finishing the story.

Glad you liked the enemy profiles...were you saying you wanted a full list of the profiles that appeared in the game? That should be easy to do if that's what you're asking...but I'll have to ask Dumscheissekopf about that, because I sent all that info to him.

Sorry the Gretel based heroine freaks you out...I didn't have any say in who Dum used as his main character, but I'd thought that the changes the character underwent made her less hideous than Gretel...back to the old drawing board! Cheesy Grin
