One problem that I have found with this last release is sound related. It's rather hard to explain but it's like the sounds echo... or should I say the sounds travel at a specificly slow speed. By that, I mean that I'm many tiles away from the guard... I kill him while running at him... I hear him die... and as I pick up the bullets as I run over him I hear the sound or part of the sounds again... it's like running into the back of the sound wave travelling in the other direction.

I noticed the same thing on the mods that have been released using the 4GW engine..
Machine:

PII-400Mhz - with a true SoundBlaster Pro audio card. It even does it with my onboard sound card which is a Crystal Audio Chip set... Which uses the Essolo drivers...

Yep... when you installed the program and let it change or update your autoexec.bat file, it placed 3 lines near the bottom of the file and changed the path.

Now the path is proper, but you need to move those last three lines:

::: CODE :::

SET WATCOM=C:\Watcom
SET EDPATH=C:\Watcom\EDDAT
SET INCLUDE=C:\Watcom\H;C:\Watcom\H\NT

Move those three lines UP under the Path statement using whatever favorite editor you like. Reboot the machine and now you should be able to compile using the Watcom compiler...

are you refering to the setvars.bat file? because this is what it says:

::: CODE :::

@echo off
SET PATH=C:\watcom\BINNT;C:\watcom\BINW;%PATH%
SET WATCOM=C:\Watcom
SET EDPATH=C:\Watcom\EDDAT
SET INCLUDE=C:\Watcom\H;C:\Watcom\H\NT

i figured u might of meant put them ABOVE the path file, so i tried that too...didnt work =/

No...

When you installed Watcom it asked if you would like it to update your autoexec file. If you said yes, then it added itself to the existing PATH command and then added the three lines I quoted to the bottom of your autoexec.bat file. Move those 3 lines up to under your path file.

Now if you said no.... depending on which operating system you are using, will determine how you need to start up Watcom.

Ok.... Edit the autoexec.bat file on your C: drive in the route ... ie: C:\

Add:

C:\watcom\BINNT;C:\watcom\BINW;

to the end of the PATH statement.....
Then add the lines:
SET WATCOM=C:\Watcom
SET EDPATH=C:\Watcom\EDDAT
SET INCLUDE=C:\Watcom\H;C:\Watcom\H\NT

Under the PATH statement....

Reboot the system... and now when you run the Watcom compiler via the icon in windows, it will work. The problem that you are having with all of the errors is that it can't find the files that it needs to compile. Those being the include files....

The other way of doing it is to do this:

Create a new bat file in any word processor and include all the lines that you found in the setvars.bat file... then add:

C:\Watcom\binnt\ide.exe
After it... and save it as say Watcom.bat... Now go to the Watcom icon in your files list from the start menu - highlight it and click on properties... now change the C:\Watcom\binnt\ide.exe to read : C:\Watcom\Watcom.bat

And that should work. The problem with XP is that it's hard to change the environment in a window and then run the program without the window closing unless you do one of the two options that I've given you.

Also, most of the routines that are available tutorial wise, will not work without some major changes. Once again, when Ripper converted it over, he took liberties in renaming things and tightening the code. So it's a whole new learning process. For that matter, I just started playing with the 4GW a few days ago and while it does allow much more memory, it does have a few errors that haven't been fixed... as I posted above... the sound one bugs me... The other is that to convert over to the Darkone Raycastor is now almost impossible... well maybe not, but it's going to be damn hard to get it to work in this new environment. ...

Anyhow... that's what you need to do to get rid of all of the errors that it is throwing at you. It's because it can't find the files that the compiler needs to include to generate the code and create the exe.

Hope that helps...

ah...no...

i've been doing what ripper said, and going into command prompt...and entering the watcom folder from there, then executing setvars.bat in cmdprmpt, then going into IDE...these mean i dont have to go into cmdprompt, but i still get the errors...

Very good... then do the first step that I have given.... edit the autoexec.bat file and add the stuff to the path and then the lines underneath it. Remember if there is no semi-colon on the end of the path line before you add these new items you have to add one first. That should fix the problems.

OK, let's try something else: Which version of Watcom are you using? You can find out by looking at the first line in c:\watcom\readme.txt. If it doesn't read "Open Watcom C/C++/FORTRAN Version 1.3 - README" you are using the wrong version and should install the right version. You can still get Open Watcom 1.3 from http://www.openwatcom.org/index.php/Download by choosing a mirror, click on "archive" and search with help of the status bar for "open-watcom-win32-1.3.exe". Of course you could also try the new 1.6, but I didn't try this yet Wink

AUTOEXEC.BAT is a hidden file for me on C:\. Make sure you can see hidden files cause it might be there.

I also get these errors if you would like to compile with the Open Watcom

Here's a packaged command-line version: https://archive.org/download/WOLF4GW/WOLF4GW.ZIP

- Type (or click on) BUILD.BAT to build all the obj files and make a Wolf3d.exe
- You can alternatively type 'MAKE filename.cpp' to update an obj, then 'LINK' to update the exe

I put it together for DOS, but it should work in DosBox and Windows (up to XP?) as well. The necessary Open Watcom 1.8 Dos compiler/library files are included. No GUI! Very Happy Just edit the cpp files with your favorite text editor (Dos Edit, Notepad, Geany).

Is this what you mean? Send me your corrupted wl_agent.cpp and wl_play.cpp files and I'll compare them to mine to make sure.

The link compiles (for the record), the issue was that OMJ added uneven amounts of ( ), { }, /* */, and : to his code.
