You can't get it for free legally. But you can get the shareware version here.

Shareware = Free

The shareware version contains the first episode of 10 levels.

Full Version = Buy

Contains all 6 episodes of 10 levels per episode.

And before you ask, No.... People here will not pirate the full version... So don't ask as that would break one of the rules of the forums..

You have two choices, darkdrake. You can buy either:

1. The latest re-release by Xplosiv. This includes the original game, its commercial sequel Spear of Destiny and two mission packs for the latter.

2. The original commercial version of Wolfenstein 3D. Fully boxed with two 3.5" floppies and the hint manual.

Well I got mine originally from the retail box many years ago. I then bought it again a couple of years ago from the Ebay link I provided. Recently I ordered the Xplosiv re-release because the idea of having them all in one box seems so neat.

You could also download the full version from id Software's website for $20.

Try the shareware version, linked from Schabbs' addon page - think of it as a demo.

Not sure about everyone else, but as with sentenced, I recently did the ebay option.

http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=1591#18

I bought Spear of Destiny at Kmart for around $50 in 1994, which was pretty exciting for me; after having the original wolf3d for around a year. That was a step for me, wanting something alot and buying it. At that age, I even had to ask my parents and stuff like that - haha. I bought SOD again with the Lost Missions for around $25 around a year later. I never had to buy the full version of wolf3d originally because my dad brought it home when I was around 12, but I thought it'd be cool to buy it off ebay for the hintbook. The version of wolf3d we had in 1993 was Apogee v1.1. A few years later I noticed one of my friends had GT v1.4, and I've been using that version ever since. I haven't even tried the disks I bought off ebay yet, but thanks for indirectly reminding me about it! I'm curious to see why it's 2 disks instead of 1.

Making a mod built on the shareware version of Wolf3D is generally frowned upon, since id Software/Apogee (Wolf3d's distributors) have respectfully requested addons/mods to be made with only the full version of the game.

If you choose to use the shareware version as a base, it will still be released and played if you send it to Schabbs (who will upload it onto his website server), but you would be going against the developers' will.

Bear in mind that you can only design ten levels with the shareware version. Having the registered version means you can design sixty.

I downloaded it offline (not illegally... it wasn't free) and my computer crashed 5 times. Then I dumped that comp and got a new one, but it didn't have Wolf on it, and I had allready bought it. So I downloaded the Wolf mod that included all the files that was the closest to the original game.

You mean this one? http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/NACW3D.ZIP

Not your best shot, as everything you'll find therein is a pair of GAMEMAPS.WL6 & MAPHEAD.WL6 files, plus a readme thingie. Sorry!

Truth is, I don’t know whether that’s the only place the mod can be grabbed from as of this writing. It might also be available for download elsewhere, and with different contents… You can never know…

Come on....

Lets stop with the telling people how to pirate the game that the rest of us (if not all) had to pay for in the first place. So lets NOT promote piracy... It's against the Rules of the Forums and illegal by law...

The formatted text should help to define "pirating".

Even if you payed for it you still can't make a copy and give it away. That's copying which is pirating.

The full version of Wolf 3D is not available on links from the Dome, and I also make it quite clear on the Globalnet site too that links to pirated software are not tolerated.

@Thomas:

I think somewhere in there was an appology... And before you send another PM trying to explain yourself, just stop and take a deep breath - aka relax, and then think about things before you post them. If you had actually read the entire thread, you would see that in my first post I explained the difference between the "Shareware" and the "Full" version of the software. It was then asked where he could buy the software... and so on and so on... eventually leading to you saying "I'll PM you the links to get it". My previous post was meant for you to read, think for a second, and realize that what you were about to do was pirate software. It was a warning that you were about to break the rules. Your response to that post and the posts of others shows that while you don't read english well, you also don't understand it well either and in trying to explain yourself (which was not required - as all you had to do was shut up and say nothing) , planted the foot that much deeper in your mouth as you spoke incorrectly about Brian being involved and openly admitted in the forums that you are in possession of "Pirated" software. You don't or didn't grasp the concept of Shareware vs. Full Versions of software. Read on and learn!!
(And yes consider this another warning about the rules of the forums).

@All:

For those who don't understand, Wolfenstein is still available (read as being sold) through the Activision site and also via Id software themselves. This is the full version of the game. While yes there are sites out there on the web that do have the full version of many games available for download, those sites are pirating the software. Unless you buy the software from either the original author or an agent given permission to sell their software, you are pirating software by downloading it from one of these sites.

We at the DHW Forums do not condone software piracy and do not appreciate people using the forums to promote such actions. The reason we have this in the rules of the forums is so that we can not be held liable for those people who use the forums to break the rules.

And No... Brian is in No Way, Shape, or Form, pirating the Wolfenstein software. There are no links from his site to the "Full - Original Version of Wolfenstein 3d".

There are the following topics already in place to talk about what condones piracy and where we stand on it here in the forums:

Recently sent PM to BrotherTank - An Open Response

The discussion of the bounds of Piracy and the DHW Forums

TAKE NOTE - The Letter from ID

These are just a few places where you can read about software piracy and how it relates to Wolfenstein, sites, and the forums. The last reference I can give is The Forums Rules, so before you go PM'ing anyone to share information about where they can get something illegal, please remember the rules of the forums, as breaking them will result in the loss of access to the forums and should you get caught - A visit from the authorities for breaking the Law.

To all of that I will add this:

Piracy = The illegal copying/downloading of any product which is still being sold by the original author, or an agent acting on behalf of the author, or a distributer for the author, (the last two have paid for the right to sell the product) without paying them for it.

Shareware = A means of giving free to the public a "teaser" or portion of the product. In most cases the "Full" version of the product is being sold as stated in the "Piracy =" statement above. The idea of shareware is to get you to try their product in the hope that you will like it so much that you want to buy the full product.

Welcome to the forums!
You can get v1.0 shareware from the either of these places:

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~brlowe/share.htm
http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/dload.php?action=category&id=1

I'm pretty sure that a "Wolf3d v1.0 registered" (6-episodes) doesn't even exist, but you can always just change the source code to allow No Clipping (it's in an #ifdef SPEAR tag on line 502 in WL_DEBUG.C). If you want any help with this, let me know if your registered version has a readthis, and if it's v1.1 or v1.4, and I can make you an exe with No Clipping available. I find it quite fun to use, it's good for alot of testing purposes too. Smile

If you don't want to wait, and simply want to know the "No Clipping mode" is like (not necessarily using it with the Shareware levels), you can always try it out in the Spear Of Destiny Demo version, which is free for download.
