From 3drealms.com

Episode 6 Level 2 Pushwall Problem

What is actually happening is that the secret door is only supposed to go back two spaces, but on fast machines such as a 486DX/50 or 486DX2/66, not all the secret doors will go back two spaces when opened.

As 486DX2/66s were unavailable and 486DX/50s had just came out, this error was not detected when this game came out. We have been unable to determine what specifically is causing this error within the program, but have determined that it only happens on the newer machines. As a way to temporarily solve this problem, you can try turning you turbo button off on your computer when you open the secret door. In testing this is successful about 50% of the time, so we recommend that you save your game just before you try to open the door. After successfully opening the door, you can return your computer to optimum speed.

At this time a fix is unavailable, due to the inability to find out specifically what the problem is caused by, and why it only happens on high end machines.

What I'd like to know is...."how to turn the turbo button off" on my computer, or set my computer to a different speed.

i am having problems with mapedit.

Shocked

either it keeps telling me the game directory doesnt exist (when i did type in the right directory)
or an error message comes up saying "error opening maphead.wl6" or something like that.

i think its because technically this isnt the original (bought) game itself. we had the original bought wolf 3d and SoD on our older computer, but after we moved in 1998....we couldnt find the box and the original game in it. so from the computer we copied the games onto a CD and thats how ive been playing it ever since.

Try Mapedit 7.2. This sometimes works when later versions don't. Unzip all the mapedit files into the same folder as Wolf 3D files and run Mapedit.exe.

Mapedit 8.5 is the one that should be used if possible as it has more features than Mapedit 7.2. With Mapedit 8.5 you don't get the runtime error you get on newer comps with Mapedit 8.4.

It's just I've found that Mapedit 7.2 seems to work sometimes when Mapedit 8.5 doesn't.

Hahaha. Man, I've forgotten about those. "Turbo" buttons went the way of the dinosaurs years ago, around the end of the 486 days I believe. They just gave you a minor boost in speed, from a 4MHz, or 16MHz boost, and probably higher depending on your machine. I had a 286 that ran at 8MHz, and with the turbo on it ran at 12MHz. With the "turbo" button no longer in use, people have opted to "overclock" their systems through the BIOS, the motherboard jumper switches, or through a more complicated method of connecting the "bridges" on the CPU itself.

If you want, you can try the exe I posted in the bottom link of the second post of this thread...

http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=3350

The post says how to fix the problem too, if you feel like coding it yourself. You might find the topic of discussion interesting. Wink

You might need to use the vgafiles from Mr. Lowe's page. Does it work when you use these?

http://www.btinternet.com/~belowe/vgafiles.zip

Just about every new exe you'll ever see uses those ones, just to let you know. Wink

Why all that map editing? All you have to do is change one number in the exe to make it move 2 squares. Razz Laughing
But sure, I'd enjoy seeing your adjusted mapfiles too. Could be fun to see what you changed each occurance to in the layouts.

the Pushwall Problem is from newer processors (ie. 486DX2 66Mhz and Pentium's)
not from 386/386DX and 486/486DX just 486DX2 and up Rolling Eyes
