Seriously? No secrets? Interesting...

I like the first and third one's ceiling colours. I think maybe a similar colour to the dark brown you put in a earlier post, Level 27 i think.

I know that this has been primarily Thomas's section but was wondering if anyone had any advice on one of mine?

That's cool, it's just a bit unusual. I'm still really looking forward to to it.

Thomas wrote:
About your ceiling colour, I think you should stick to the current colour, or make it turqouise. That's just my opinion. I really like the look of Castle Holle, but I haven't seen the rumored demo-release yet...

Ok, here's the update on 'Escape from Castle Holle'.

It's 30 seamless levels of which 12 levels are completed.
Coding has been completed. Thanks to some help from some of the DHW guys!
I still have 3 boss levels, 3 secret levels, and 12 standard levels to make. (Mapping is a long process for me. I am so particular about every little thing in each room on each level that it takes a looong time to get a level to a stage where i'm happy with it) I have what i would consider some really unique & challenging levels. I think Wolfers are really going to enjoy playing them.
There's been a lot of changes since i posted the original screen shots. I'll take some more and post an update later today. Not too sure about the demo, it would be the complete game with just 10 of the 30 levels. I was thinking that i might just wait and release the full thing instead.

@ Thomas. Thanks for the feedback. Turqouise is an interesting idea, hadn't thought of that! I'll try it and have a look.

Wow, that's really nice of you to offer. I might just see how i go for the moment as i'm starting to get through them a lot quicker now that the coding and everything else is done and i can concentrate solely on mapping. I really appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind in case i get stuck. Cheesy Grin

I will need a beta tester at some stage though...If your interested?

That's fantastic, thanks. I'll let you know when i'm up to that stage.

Actually, I'll have a look and see if i can put a demo together to send to you. Smile

Hey, Dean, how's that demo coming along? Very Happy

Shouldn't be too far off. Maybe a week or two, depending on school and work.

When i had a look, i found a whole lot of little things that i need to do before i'd even consider releasing it, mainly cosmetic stuff, and a touch more coding i've decided to do, shouldn't take too long that part though.

I'll let you know when's it ready and i'll try to get some new screenshots up this week some time. I'll start a new thread when i do as we're getting off track in this one.

@ Thomas. Tried the turquoise ceiling colour you suggested. It looks fantastic! Here's another.

Trying not to use a brown ceiling as I've already used a couple for other levels that have this wall as well ones with wood panneling.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Thomas, will try the dark red suggestion out and see how it looks. Have posted some new screenshots today in a new thread. Check 'em out and see what you think!

The first one looked the best at first but I changed my mind fast. The second one looks a bit odd. The last one looks a bit boring. I'd take the second one.

WOW Shocked , i never realised that wall could be used with so many different coloured ceilings. It doesn't look out of place on any of them!

It's pretty hard to pick one over the others. To me it would all depend on what type of level you are making.

The green ceiling makes look like it's a darker sort of level with maybe plenty of mutants.

The red ceiling makes it look like a more upper-class type of level with a lot of officers, ss and maybe a Boss.

The yellow sort of colour ceiling looks like a middle of the castle type of level with a mixture of guards.

So maybe match the ceiling colour to if the level falls into any of those criteria's?

Hope this helps. Smile

But about your screenshot Dean, for the first: Excellent wall tile! Second: Good use of that kind of guards. I like the LE Look. Third: Keep that colour! Some of the drab walls mix together along with dark red.

Cool, thanks Thomas, was worried it all looked a bit dark.

I don't think there's a problem with the similar ceiling colours that you showed. When you're doing 70 levels like you are your bound to have many floors with the same or similar ceiling colours. I think it's OK to put two similar looking levels together, even if they do have the same or similar ceiling colours. Just not like 3 or 4 in a row.

You gotta remember that the ID guys thought the the first 9 levels should all have the same ceiling colour! Smile

I like the red ceiling with the marble level. Orange looks bizarre and cyan doesn't do it for me. Orange is a color that should be used sparingly.

I'm with you there, Executor. The grey marble would probably also look good with a very dark green, or a dark blue.

I moved the thread here because this is you guys testing different ceiling colours for a game that hasn't been released... basically you are doing a public beta of ceiling colours... thus, I felt the thread belonged in the Beta Breakers area...

If you really want to keep the ceiling color then i'd modify the cage. But, to be honest with you it really doesn't look that bad.

if you hadn't pointed it out, i probably wouldn't have noticed!

Modifying the cage itself also poses another problem - you'd then have to re-test every level it appears in to make sure the sides of the cage don't disappear in that level, also! I'd say just change the ceiling color instead, although I'm also with Dean in that I wouldn't have noticed the problem had you not mentioned it. And I'm rather a perfectionist.
