Heres an idea:if we can make bad guys shoot eachother like
in doom, we could make allied soldiers real easy! all you
do, is make it so that the dog can't hurt the player,
and change the dog graphics to soldier graphics!

cos I dont know about you, but dogs always follow me around for
the whole damn level Laughing

just an idea.....

Great idea! I could do that (maybe?)... that would make it a lot more team based... sorta like Rainbow six etc...

Allthough it had a few drawbacks, but in general I know how to do it. Cool

All you have to do is change the dog sprites for, say, allied soldier sprites, look at the tutorial "change dog in guard" (something like that!)... then make sure you change the options in the source code so that the allied soldier (or anyone else) wont shoot you!

Surly that would just make a guard follow you?? and not shoot... you need to get it to shoot the dog/guard and also 8 frame dieing so if you see this guards back when he gets shot, he doesnt die the other way round, c wat i mean Twisted Evil

The actual first post was intending about how the hell do you make a soldier on your team so he follows you around like a few meters and shoots at baddies near you? This is a great idea and I would love to include it in my upcoming TC. Does anyone have any clues about this apart from one guy who changed a dog into an original enemy? Also please tell me if you find out how to! Id love it and it would revolutionize Wolfenstein3D forever! Thanks guys... Joel Corrigan Wink

Heres a cool idea Idea that wouldn't need a heap of coding - saving people! It's simple Wink All you'd have to do is change the dog sprites to 'hostage' ones. Make the attack frames into ones where the person throws their arms about or something. In the code put the dogs attack points to 0 and make it that if they die the level ends (player dies) In this way if the person (dog) stood in the way of another guard it would get shot and you would fail the level. If you got to the end of the level with the person (dog) still alive you could go onto the next level. This method could work to the advantage of some peoples storylines I'm sure! If someone really wants me too I could write a tutorial but it shouldn't be too hard to do. If someone uses this idea I'd love to here how it went Razz

Heh... that is cool! You know... a Return to Castle Wolfenstein mod might be pretty cool... depends though. You could have the levels where your buddy (the original game starts with him already dead) follows you around but you both get captured and so forth.

Good idea Jon! But in my game I want to have a guy who shoots down the enemy! Cant you hack the code so the guy on Ur team, is kind of "magnetized" to the baddies and shoots them down? Id love to have that in my game and so would all of us! I think Reivax said he was doing something of that nature! Yeah... From Joel Corrigan Wink

Yeah I know Xarkon. But this seemed like the best forum to post my idea in and I couldn't be bothered starting a new one Razz . It was just a cool little concept I thought of!
By the way if you use this idea in your game Trizzy (it will probably be a first Exclamation ) or if anyone else uses it you don't have to put me in the credits if you don't want to but PLEASE DON'T write this off as your own idea Evil or Very Mad If you make it a big feature of the game I would appreciate you puting me in your credits somewhere Wink

Ok how about using the pacman ghost. It would always follow your back and you could make it damage guards that are hurting you. However, I still wouldn't know how to go about making the other guards shoot at it. It would be too powerful unless the guards attacked it first.

I think we shuld revisit this post. Maybe we could do this! I think the Pacman things and the Dogs idea would be best. What did Chris Chokan use in CHOKAGE for the invisible Chokster following you? Was that the dog? I think so. Maybe the enemies dont have to shoot at the follower. You can add into the story that you are higher priority to kill or you have a higher rank taht's why you are still alive! Or sum thing. I think sum1 and I and JohnOkaner can make this together.

Any takers?

Sorry not to post about your comment, but reading that hostage thing, I can't help but think of how inaccurate(or rather, over-accurate) the shooting in wolf is, sometimes you shoot a guard just to the left of you instead of the one directly in front of you simply because the one to the left is closer.

they have that type of thing in the starship troopers demo found at www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk all that has been done at the moment, is a guy that does no attack, and follows you. You should try looking at the ROTT source code, (the game where people follow and attack enemies, i think dark war) You wouldn't need to do have 8 dead sprites, just make 1 for his death from behind. that should look okayish. Ive not looked into this but why not try looking at the gun source code (T_attack) because its a sprite that attacks enemies. But you have to click, if you use the enemies on sight attack, but change it so that if the "gun" sees enemies it automaticly starts shooting at it. In my game, i was origionally, going to do it so that. In each level you have to find somebody that ends the level but not in all the levels and then show slide shows of stuff, but now if somebody gets the code released, i would like to use it so that the guy follows you to the lift
