Hey folks,
When I was trying to find some info on exploiting wolf3d commercially, I found this.
I think they are some notes of John Carmack, with some archives, including some sources and patches.
http://public.www.planetmirror.com/pub/idgames/idstuff/source/?fl=

Take a look, it's interesting. Maybe surfing in these directories could reveal more Mr Green

EDIT: ow yes, it includes the ROTT ipx drivers
EDIT: it also contains the email of mister Carmack himself

im posting in a thread started by someone wanting to 'exploit' wolf3d.

I'm such a rebel!

[EDIT] Just to let you know man. It's fools gold what you found. You went to a mirror of this site: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/

Its the space iD use to keep all their web stuff. patches, RELEASED source codes, and text files relating to the downloads, such as a message about him finally releasing the DOOM code, etc (similar to the one he wrote with the wolf code about not wanting to look at his code).

There ARE things like the ROTT thing and DOOM95 stuff, but nothing that will help you with your' exploitingness. Its just source codes. If you cut the /source/ off of the address, you'll find a heap of folders that lead to Doom, hexen, etc. THERE IS a WOLF folder, but dont bother. I went in there, and dived as soon as I saw wolf1.41b.zip, but its all for RTCW Sad

Nice find, but a) its actually the site I linked, and b) you wont really find anything in there you havnt found already.

I thought the ipx drivers were undiscovered. Never mind.
And about exploiting wolf3d, what do you mean. I'm only discovering the options, and I do not want to exploit the code commercially (if you mean that). it would be too difficult.
Well, it's just a mirror, ok. But it's fun to read those carmack notes.
And I'm not really sure everything on the server is discovered already.

EDIT: ow ok. I got it. Found this because I accidentally clicked a link in google, and its not meant to exploit id stuff.

They could well be. I think that as they are in the actual iD site, that they arent reeli that undiscovered...

So why look for them then Wink ? If you don't plan on doing it, why not just leave it and wait for Haasboy's reply? Idk, im not telling you to stop...coz im personally interested too Very Happy , but still, Im interested because I would like to maybe work to this Niche thingy Adam spoke of. I even emailed Hollenshead about it Smile

Its really funny how easy it is to get ahold of peoples email addresses Wink

Yes, email adresses are easy to sniff. On the link I gave above, at that page, John Carmacks email at iD's is there too.

And about thinking about the possibilities and how: I'm really eager to find this out, because it's so interesting and exciting.
Its like a big puzzle you have to solve, finding a glitch and getting some things done.
But you are right, there's no consequense for me. However, getting a license is one thing, but using it to get money is something else.

Maybe those drivers are good, so someone could manage to get wolf on multiplay.

It wouldn't really matter because any source port that wants decent multiplayer will have to rewrite the netcode for TCP anyway. IPX doesn't work in modern systems.
