Hai folks,
Yet another kind of discovery: I found a very lightweight MP3 Player: STP.
It runs in the system tray of Windows. Command line and playlists are supported.
Hotkeys too.

According to this:
- make a bat file
- make a playlist
- merge them to a batfile that starts this thingy first, then the playlist
- get wolf to put out keycommands, to start several music files,
or let it play automatically

Currently I'm discovering it options in combination with wolf.
But I need to know just one thing: is it possible in C to send out a
keyboard key? So make this program believe, by example, Crtl+C is pressed?
By the way, this way of bat-with-command-line is opted in another post. Thanks for the idea.

EDIT: I do not know wether this is good or bad. Maybe the program is aimed to be a graphical player.
I think so. Still searching for that source code in c that makes mp3 playing possible. The thing is,
DOS only supports Soundblaster cards. Tried Lame, but couldn't find a good frontend yet.
What'dya thing about adding MP3 support?

Unless you add an extra channel to the Sound Blaster routines, MP3 support really isn't a good idea. The digitized music would always be interrupted by digitized sounds (such as guard alerts or gunshots) whenever such sounds were played back.

This thread is almost the same as the one here:
http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=2374
And I don't think that the mp3 sound would cut out when the guards make a sound, but it has been awhile since I've played while listening to Winamp.

Yes, that's where I got the idea.
But what about that channel? If I'm just listening my music while playing wolf,
everything goes fine. No interruptions, but that must be ok.

However, mp3 is not the best goal for me. Just wanna spice up the WAV rate and
make MIDI possible. No not know how.

MP3 is just too-over-the-top. Not suited for a wolf game.
And besides, using an external player to fool the user of the game
is not very handy.

Midi files will sound different on other user's soundcards. That's just the way Midi works. If you want to avoid such problems, the most practical things to do is play back an MOD or S3M file.

Well, I'm talking abuot when you run Wolfenstein using VDM Sound. You can always run Wolfie without VDMS and have an MP3 player running that way, but then Adlib sounds and stuff are missing. And on Windows XP without VDMS, the SB sounds don't *quite* play back the way they should ... Mouth Shut

Ah, yes, ok, because of the same-channel thing, it will turn out messy.
I'll check that MOD thing, maybe it's cool.
And IMF, that's the same on every soundcard? I can use MIDI->IMF convertor.

Yes, when run through VDM Sound, DOS Box, or any DOS-based, non-PCI SB card.

Either IMF Tools Version 2.0 or IMF Creator will do the job, but only IMF Creator can be relied on to keep the speed of the music from jumping up and down in the IMF.

Besides, a wolf with Mp3s, think how big of a download that would be for the dialup users. The audiot file would be HUGE
