ROMANIA 2008
The country's government is destroyed by Fascist military group who's leader made himself Romania's new ruler. The leader rules the country with an iron fist, killing anybody who might be a threat, blood fills the country's streets. The bloodshed sweeps Europe, and beneath it, in a long lost Underground Kingdom of Elvans. You play Dala (pronounced Dah-Lia), a girl who witnessed the regime murder her father, a hunter until seriously injured, in cold blood. You pick up the sword your father given you the day of his injury and cut down the attackers. You don't care who or what you'll face, you know this evil must be destroyed. It's time to pay the Count a visit!

This is a secret project I've been working on, only a few know of it. I just sent the game's ZIP file and screenshots to The Wolf3d Dome (www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk for those who don't know) and they should be on the site in a little while. I've also posted screenshots on my MySpace in my pics section.

A World Of Rage also has one hell of a killer soundtrack, featuring music from Quake II, Halo, Mortal Kombat 3, Alien 3 (NES), and Majik Monkee's "MedEvil" Wolfenstein 3d mod (I did give credit to him for it was due). The only thing really unmodified is the coding, a prefer working with something that's close to the original Wolf3d.

Sorry for the delay in getting the addon posted. I've just switched to broadband and I've had big compatibility problems with my comp. Most of the time it freezes, hopefully it won't before I get this message posted here.

I'm not updating the Dome pages until I can get someone to sort this out (bt.com has been of little use) but for the moment you can download the addon at http://www.brlowe.co.uk/Rage.zip

No problem, taking one's time is something I commonly do when modding. Laughing

After already playing quite a few levels have to say it's nicely done.
Levels are not too large, finding keys is not too difficult....fun.

some notes though (random order):

1. Horison line is way too high to look realistic.
2. What is with those upside down walking on a ceiling officers?
3. Some bugs, like this first boss (?) who shoots tables??
4. Diagonal automatic weapon, hard to aim...you should go with wolf3D type vertical weapons.
5. Though I do respect your will not to have any code changes, I think this mod needed at least the floor code changes (textured floors) so it'll look "logical". Many mods don't require that, but yours does, as it has many outside areas, cemetery sites and such....grass or land floor could be magic with those, grey solid floor looks silly.

Okay, although I didn't want to blow the secret, the upside-down officers are actually supposed to be Vampiric Commanders. I got the idea for them from Interview With A Vampire (the movie, not the book) when Brad Pitt meets that one vampire in France (I think) that walks up the archway and tips his hat to Pitt while standing upside-down.

As far as coding goes, every time I try to change something, even the simplest of things like ceiling colors, I am unable to compile everything with C++ for some reason. Besides, I like the original Wolf3d feeling and that's why I never ask anybody to put in weapon bobbing or stuff.

When it comes to the bugs, that really is quite strange because I didn't run into any bosses throwing tables when I tested the game out. I could try to fix that though.

I haven't tested this mod out yet, but one of the songs you used from MedEvil is one of my compositions. Other MedEvil music came from other games, I forget their sources.

A similiar song in this and in Medevil sounds like it is from Zombies Ate My Neighbors from the SNES.

Well, I was just wanting to elaborate on the music, not change the topic. Very Happy
The storyline is interesting. One question, what editor did you use to make it? WDC doesn't want to open it... so perhaps I've got a bug. Sad

Actually, it was from the Genesis version, according to VGMUSIC.COM.

To be honest I didn't get much past the first couple of levels.
Though if you'd like some feedback then here's what I thought of it;

The walls that you used just seemed to clash a bit with the each other, the Doom ones seemed to clash with all the others especially.
Coding changes, you obviously did some as you have 4 keys, if you aren't going to do many at least change the ceiling colours to match your wall theme for that level (Which seems a bit all over the place anyway)
The sword, it looks cool but you get the pistol within 3 seconds and never really get the chance to use the sword again, why have it then?
The upside down guards have been done many times before and you're just ripping off one particular mod by using them.
The charcter picture on the taskbar was too small to see any real change when you took damage.
The title screen was kick-ass, I really liked it.
Not enough health items.
The flying-bat things looked pretty good as did the main green coloured guard.
The green guards carry a rifle but when you killl one you onlyt get a pistol.

It's always good to have new people making and releasing mods. Good luck with your next project!

Maybe I'll play a bit more and see how the rest of it goes.

To everyone else, please don't let what I've said put you off playing, there is some good stuff in the mod.

Man, lots of questions to answer, where to begin?

Well for starters, I never change the code. The coding changes were there only because this is a modified version of MCS' Wolfenstein Collection, much like my Secret Missions series. After you beat the game, there's a credits section in the endart which gives him credit for the engine.

I actually used multiple programs for the music. That one song from MedEvil was exported from MedEvil using WDC, then I imported it into the game using FloEdit 2. I found the chunk number to replace by using ChaosEdit as some sort of IMF Jukebox. When I came to a song I wanted to replace, I'd make a mental note of the chunk number and I used FloEdit 2 to import different songs into the game.

Yeah, I think I made a mistake then in the credits section though, I gave credit to Majik Monkee because I thought he composed the music in MedEvil. That'd be my bad and I apologize.

Oh Dean, I'm not a new person. My first project was Wolfenstein 3D: The Secret Missions part 1 which I sent to The Wolf3d Dome back in 2004. A World Of Rage is my 9th project, I think. But hey, that's okay.

Make that *two* compositions done by you - Levels 1 and 8, IIRC.

Several IMFs in MedEvil were from me, which are VGMUSIC Midis and selections from Conch's Halloween Midis. I changed them all to IMF format. At least two of these Midis were selected by Majik (Levels 6 and 10).

All remaining IMFs were done before I started helping with the MedEvil project. I believe they all came from the Mutant Strike 2 game, including the Level 1 tune.

What do you mean level 1's music is from MedEvil? Or do you mean there's music from MedEvil levels 1 and 8? Anyway, I downloaded music From VGMusic.COM and the first 2 levels are music from Quake II. Here's a list of Rage's soundtrack:

Title: Dead World Rising 2 (Forgot to give credit to Great Wasabi)
Menu: Halo
Level 1: Quake II
Level 2: Quake II
Level 3: Mortal Kombat 3
Level 4: Halo 2
Level 5: Alien 3
Level 6/Elevator: Wolfenstein 3D
Level 7: Metroid Prime
Level 8: MedEvil
Victory: Final Fantasy/MedEvil
High Scores: Wolfenstein Collection (Forgot to change that one)

Now yeah, in the actual AUIOT.WL6, there are 3 songs from MedEvil but I only used 2 in the game, including the Final Fantasy one. Just like there's Blake Stone music that isn't used. That's because the BS music is leftovers from Wolfenstein Collection and I was gonna have more levels, but I ran out of ideas in map design and wanted to keep some of my other downloaded music From VGMusic.COM for further projects.

Argh, I really didn't mean to make a lengthy discussion on music.

That is a cool title screen. Is that yours or where is it from?

I mean that Levels 1 and 8 and MedEvil had music composed by Adam Biser.

Yeah, I'm with you, Adam; I didn't want the lengthy discussion about lifting tracks from other TCs, either. I just wanted to seal up the unanswered questions with the music so it wouldn't come back to haunt the topic later on. Mouth Shut

That's alright you don't sound naive, I'm just not that famous. But sure, here's a list:

Wolfenstein 3d: The Secret Missions parts 1-4 (Each of them a different mod/conversion)
Brutal Damage
Gothic Mayhem (Still want to re-work it)
WolfenDoom II: The Depths Of Hell
Galactic Catacombs 3d
A World Of Rage

So yeah, if you want to check them out, those are all my projects.

I know, I was just wondering if that was it, just for "Dracula". I've been to Romania. My wife is from the Transylvania area. The landscape is actually very nice. The main part of the Dracula book takes place in England. The book's Romania/Transylvania is quite a bit different from the real thing.

Funny that both of you mention Dracula. I was talking with a friend recently about my plans to do a miniseries based on the Dracula novel.

Fact is, I've always been into the legend-based characters like vampires and such. The Twilight Zone fanfic I plan to write next month has a legend of its own, too - related to a mirror that reflects everything in Black and White.

I set the game in Romania for 2 main reasons.

1: In old fashioned horror films, places like Transylvania and Romania are supposed to be dark and bleak places even if they aren't in really life. That way, I could have the outdoor wall graphics match the grey ceiling and floor colors and have it somewhat make sense, because it kinda looks like fog.
2: Normally, I would've selected Transylvania as the area but I thought that might reveal Dracula's identity almost immediately. Most of the Dracula stories I heard is in Transylvania and not Romania. I wanted players to kinda guess what you're enemy really is with clues to help you such as wells with blood, bat statues, etc.

Transylvania IS Romania. It's a part of Romania, not a division, or a state, like California to USA, but landscapely, like the Rocky Mountains. Not comparing them, just giving an example of what it is. Smile

Oh, I thought they were neighboring countries. Stupid me, oh well.

Transylvania *is* a region (not a landmark or mountain range) in Romania, much like saying "the midwest" in the US.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transylvania
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romania#Administrative_divisions
The Alps are also located in Transylvania and those are comparable to the Rocky Mountains. Smile
