Uhm.. a bit old topic but what the hell, I'll take it.

I voted on average. I would vote for good or very good when I downloaded it and played it for the first time - it was a nice adventure, but not what I was expecting. From all I heard about Spear Ressurection, I though it's something completely different. Something that has so many changes that it doesn't look like old Wolfenstein - I didn't want to play the same once again. B.J. once again. Save the world, once again. Same weapons, the same guards, once again. Anyway, it was really interesting because of level design, graphics and source changes - but that was not what I expected. Well, I'm not sure what I expected at all - I expected a real revolution, but I can't call Spear Ressurection a revolution. Yup, it was a TC that had a lot more effort put in than any other add-on in the "old years" but, once again, did Spear Ressurection merit saying "the best add-on in the world" "a real revolution"? And, the second, too few maps. Yup, it is good to make 20 good maps more than 50 bad maps, but then, a small amount of maps like that was just a waste... of potential. Why couldn't you guys hold a little longer and make, for example, fourty maps? Then, maybe I could call it a real ultimate, and the add-on in which "God gave me everything I want". And, the third, once again I want to say that Average is my point for now. Only for now, because a year ago it would be higher, or the highest. Now, when you see the add-ons that are in development or released, aren't they looking better? Aren't THEY supposed to be called a real REVOLUTION? And I'm not talking about Kreml mainly here, but about Trench Warfare.

I wanted to say something more, but I forget then. Laughing. I'm waiting for your replies to kick my ass Cheesy Grin

That was exactly the reason for just over 20 levels and no more Smile SR wasn't a real "revolution", and nor will any Wolf mod fall into this category IMHO - that honour belongs to the people like id software and other software companies that continually develop new and innovative game engines. We figured that 20 or so levels would be more than enough as we believed the novelty of the enhancements would wear off after that. By level forty, we imagined most people would be saying "yep, OK, that was fun, but it's getting a little tired now". Besides, as my musician dad would say; "you should always leave the audience wanting a little more" Smile

I have to admit, you stretched the textures across 20 maps in a good way. I really liked how some particular levels completely stood out from the rest (Especially the "foggy" cemetary).
I don't really beleive it needed more maps. For it's time SR seems to be an excellent tc, and there's no use for me to give further critique on an old (but good) game. That would be like telling the Romans to rebuild the colosseum - it's old and worn with age now, but for it's time it was magnificent Very Happy
It still has impressive features that have been copied by dozens of other wolf tc's, and has really raised the bar in a way.

Not to mention EoD is coming out, and it's awesome to see how much has changed since SR.

I voted "Fantastic" as it really is an innovative peice of work that has spawned plenty of new ideas and wolf revolutions. It's definately a tc that every wolfer MUST play sooner or later.

I voted above average. The game was kick ass and the bosses were kick ass but there were too few types of enemies. There should be 6-8 types of enemies to give the game a little variety so you don't keep beating on the same enemy over and over again.

I totally agree. I think that a variety of enemies is important in keeping the player interested. That's why I've added new enemies to just about all of my TCs.

Still though, Spear Resurrection manages to be #1 in my book of Wolfenstein add-ons.

In my books Spear Ressurection is one of the top 5 TC's because of it's excellent level design and it challenges the player.

I totally agree with WSJ...new enemies go a long way toward making a game fun...especially when they're done well...this game features a fine balance of enemies that are different, but retain the same "feel" of an actual Wolfenstein game...which is why it manages to feel like an original. Cool

I liked Spear Ressurection because the enemies gave the game an original feel to Wolfenstein 3D. But new enemies gives the player a new challenge because you never know what a new enemy can do Cool

I also liked Spear Ressurection because of the items like the invunerability artifact and the death artifact because it also kills your enemies and not just you. I also like the obsticles like the exploding barrels and the land mines. Cool

Yep. SOD2 kicked [Censored]. EOD will probably kick more [Censored]. And it's weird that level 10 has the MIDI for "Turning Japenese". I voted Excellent. EOD will probably stay at #1 on the charts. Which I am making one right now.

Yup, I agree, Spear Ressurection did kick major a** and I think EOD is going to kick even more a**. I thought the whole concept of level 10 was kind of weird because of the Japanese wall background, and the music and some other stuff.

I did edit this post back in June of 2004. I do not remember what I had originally written in 2003 so cannot fix that. In the event somebody saved a temp file of this thread back in 2003, perhaps i could get a PM of what my original post said from them. In the meantime:

Yeah it was pretty challenging, but sometimes a challenge is what can make a TC good. I liked the Mk4 weapon, it looked cool and it was very powerful.

Lol! Sometimes I get the impression that some people are afraid to criticise Spear Resurrection because they think MCS & I may think "those lowly dogs! How dare they criticise our work!" Doesn't worry us one bit though if people that don't like it are honest in saying so. As I've said before, we all have different tastes. Just as in levels. Some people like mazey levels. Others hate 'em. And so it goes.

And EoD will be no different. There'll be those that like it, those that think it's OK or average, and those who dislike or even hate it.

Although SR was good, I still think they should have given a little respect to weaker people in the sound section (*cough* adlib sound support. My Sound Blaster 16 has seen better days). That my only gripe about it.
