I've been getting this error a lot lately:

Quote:
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

It displays black text on a white screen. There is about a 50% chance of it occurring every time you go to a page of any of the forums. It also occurs in the Login pages over 75% of the time.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 24.0 on Windows XP SP 3.

I use the exact same setup and specs as Tricob and haven't had that screen appear for a very long time (I used to get it come up a lot). For me the forum has actually been very smooth lately, although the the search function does seem to struggle to find some things occassionally that I know are there...

It does happen from time to time. Yahoo seems to go through these little spurts... There is no real problem except that they are usually being spammed or such as people try to mess with their system when you see those errors. It will also show that message when someone has tried to post something here that the yahoo php software doesn't like and it trashes the wordlist section of the database. When that happens, I have to sit at the computer for hours rebuilding the search index & wordlist files. It's a real pain in the ass, but fortunately, I've only had to do it a handfull of times in the last 7 or so years....

I keep getting the '500 - Server Error' on pretty much everything I click on over the last 2 days. Geting rather annoying...

Yep. So far, I've only been able to log in while I'm at the university. At home I just can't access this site.

I use Internet Explorer without checking the Remember Me box, and that has worked solid. There's a thread on the subject on the Haven forum started by Forever: http://wolf3d.darkbb.com/t3210-diehard-wolfers-is-down

Andy says messing with the cookies may help in Firefox, but I still believe there's a bigger problem behind this...

Got it to work in IE now, not in Firefox so far. And yeah, there's definitely a bigger problem within the code of the forum that needs fixing.

I'm in Firefox now without having checked the Remember Me box - all I did was clean my cookies and cache and all that you do like when you have company over and if they have to use the computer you don't want them to see all your hmm-hmm and it works fine now... But using IE was fun though. I never use it these days!

All I use is Firefox nowadays. When IE reportedly had security issues, I stopped using it, and went to Firefox, and never went back. All my web experiences since 2007 have been through Firefox and Google Chrome - mostly Firefox because it has more single-click shortcuts.

I think MrWolfForever is right in the other thread and the errors are getting worse than ever. There are long stretches of time when it's literally impossible to do anything. It was usually enough to refresh the page 2 or 3 times before, but now I often need to refresh 10 times or more, only to start receiving errors again in a minute.

I had issues too, primarily in Firefox but now also in IE. I still do not check the Remember Me box, but still hope that this problem will be fixed somehow. I mean, it must be possible, there's an error code (500) and all.

I am experiencing a lot of server 500 errors too, especially when I try to post something.

I have gotten a couple of responses from MCS, which were merely Yahoo System Status reports.

We are continuing to work toward a resolution on this issue. We appreciate your patience. Further updates will be provided once they are available.

(11/04/14) This issue is currently stable. However we will continue to monitor the situation and provide you further updates as they become available.

I know, it's not stable for us at the moment. For the time being, please be patient, and I advise against doing a rapid series of refreshes to try and get in, particularly if you have the forum "remember" your login. I suspect doing that may have somehow caused my account to have been "deleted" a couple of times in the past year.

This seems to be occurring inconsistently. Sometimes you can get several clicks in a row to work without problems. Other times, it "white errors" constantly. But posting a Reply seems to get the errors in full swing.

Okay, I just ate those words. I got the error message well over a dozen times without even logging in. I guess it just works whenever it feels like it. Razz
