(it's 90 degree wall 3d shooter, so I guess it'll go here...)
Guys I'm sooo excited!
You know the old game "In Pursuit of Greed"?
For those who don't - it's ROTT-type game, 90 degree walls, but different wall height ,parallaxed sky and others things....like ROTT
http://www.mobygames.com/game/in-pursuit-of-greed
Now I've found out it's rippable with XWE!
And I mean ALL OF IT, sounds, sprites, enemies, HUD weapons, amazing textures..............
All textures are 64x64, enemies are "wolf3d-size sprites" (less than 64x64)...and we are using over and over again the same enemies....
It's soo cool.
We can use all those in wolf3d mods (and even Doom mods), I wonder why noone thought of that before.
(I can almost sense the "Lost World 7" coming...heh)
I can post the full sprite pack and/or sound pack, it also has a veeery cool set of level music, in format WinAmp opens.
Maybe we can even make a TC of that game into wolf3d engine...
The problem is that I've only got the shareware version....does anyone has the full game?
..I'm working on getting the full version.
are ShadowCaster sprites also rippable? |

Oh, I have been playing this game since 1995, when if first came with me "200 best shareware games disk"
It's a weird engine, close to ROTT, with all features Doom has (and more, maybe even slopes, don't remember), but damn 90-degree walls.....I guess it's a "neigbour" of ShadowCaster engine.
It's almost as cool as ROTT, with different player classes, cool inventory (randomly spawned!)....and some sites say levels design of full version is much better.
To rip the sprites open the largest file in XWE and select "auto" palette
By the way, I've already put today many of it's textures into my upcoming mod.
Maybe even ChaosEdit can be made to support this game, despite of some non 64x64 graphics it has |

important!!!
I'm looking at the "full version" sprites now, and they are totally changed!!! they are not the ones from shareware version, they have different design, and much larger in resolution...all the game concept was changed, and the levels are different too! the graphics the fit wolf3d modding I was talking about are from shareware version! Full version sprites fit "build engine" resolution much more.
So Adam (and all the rest), download shareware version too, it has all-unique cool graphics set! |

1. ALL of enemy graphics are totally diffefent between Demo and registered, while demo graphics is "wolf3d-sized" and registered ibs "Build Engine games" sized, redesined to futuristic robotic look, where in demo it has ancient/egupt look for most enemies.
2. All of weapon HUD graphics changed, weapon pickup sprites.......all much higher-resolution in registered.
2. many other, like some projectiles...well, basically everything was "puffed up"
...if you don't see those changes, maybe you've got wrong Shareware version? My shareware is "the original" from 1995 shareware CD-ROM....maybe they changed shareware afterwards? if it's the case, can upload the shareware sprites, as those look "wolf3d modding" fit |

I'm not seeing that in the demo version I found. Using XWE the image "guard" is 85x128 in both the demo and the full version... right?
I do see the weapons and such. |

This game runs well with DosBox....
Damn this game is good..it has hi-res enemies (unlike Doom, but like Build engine games), slopes (!), tons of inventory (including mines, medkits, instant walls and tons and tons of more stuff), 5 player classes each with different weapons, mission goals (primary and secondary), deactivatable forcefields, blood particles, cool soundtracks....
and those half transparent ceilings look cool.
too bad those games came out after Doom (like ROTT did) and so got unrelevant in all the DOOMania |

Is there an editor available for that? You said its rippable, but is it editable? |

I just finished In Pursuit of Greed full version...to be honest, this game COULD be nice, but it's extremely choppy, lacks in many concepts, and it is FULL of bugs. I give it a 6 at a 10-degree scale.
It has lots of nice features alrighty, yet, the graphics are actually worse than Doom graphics, some enemies cannot be killed, unless you pummel him continuously, there are only 1-2 secret areas in the whole game, plus there is a level in the second world, which cannot be completed without cheating (a gate will not open when you activate its switch), and there is absolutely no point in killing enemies - they'll just respawn. While this is not so bad at earlier levels, it's extremely horrible at the final levels. Moreover, the developers have promised a sequel, which has never been made. Luckily.
In short - if you have to choose between this and End of Destiny, do the smart thing - choose End of Destiny. |

Reactor - I for one appreciate your input on this game, as I've heard so little about it. For me, it's refreshing to hear about old DOS games that never went anywhere commercially, and finding out the reasons why they didn't sell.
Prince Of Persia 2 - despite being quite good IMO, flopped because of a very dull Level 3, and a confusing puzzle that stumped many, many people. The scenario was just so uninteresting, not many people bothered to figure out the puzzle, but instead just put the game aside. |

I'd note that I've transferred 4 Greed enemies to Wolf3D size/palette for "Secret of Eridu" (and even recolored the lizard to a few more colors)...but as I don't see this mod released in any near future - I someone wants them for their mod - can upload |

How good a games graphics are is judged on many more levels than how higher resolution it is. Some examples include...
Personal preference; some might naturally prefer the digitized look of Operation Body Count over the more cartoon look of Corridor 7. Some might prefer the WWII theme of Wolf3D over the sci-fi theme of Blake Stone.
The quality of the drawing. For instance I think many of Assassinators (many of which come straight from IPIG) graphics have an ugly shine on them and animate unnaturally (particularly the arms and legs don't move well).
Graphics fit the theme. For instance the first levels of Assassinators are set in some sort of space station and one of the enemies running around is a guy in shorts and t-shirt carrying a club and shield.
A games graphics can also look bad if they aren't done in the same look as everything else. The graphics of the obscure FPS, The Hidden Below were done in a multitude of styles and resolutions and it harmed the overall look. |

Well, I didn't say I like the art....though I do find some of it useful for modding.
And I like the demo levels more than full-version ones.
Still, it's not the worst game made. |
