In order to check out the previous discussion, follow this link: http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=4486

Brothertank asked us to make up our minds on this.

There's only two choices. If you don't like to participate at all, then simply don't vote.

Let's try to get as much votes as we can over the weekend, as this will help BT to decide what to do after his return from the weekend-off. This poll will run for only 4 days.

And please folks, try to keep the "but-buts" down this time Smile

And count me in too. For anyone who's afraid of a new exe, don't be. I only know how to edit with Mapedit, and there are a few new exciting features to play that I haven't used before, but the new features will be easy to pick up (Greg has made them very easy to implement from what I can tell), so I'm looking forward to trying them and seeing how they work.

@Ack - I hope you join in - we can go head to head but I think you'll beat me - I couldn't have matched Orb's levels Smile But be careful, there's some damned good mappers out there so we could both be left in the dust Smile

I hope the idea gets resurrected, I'm interested in making a map for this. I just need to know the deadline. I thought the EXE that allowed the changing of normal Wolf stuff was good, but anyway. I hope this idea doesn't die out.

Sure I'll have a go, but with mappers like AReyeP, Ack and Thomas it's going to be hot competition (No offence to anyone else)! Fantastic to have them all mapping again!

But then again maybe someone unexpected will surprise everyone and win....I guess thats one of the good possibilities that might come out of this!

That, plus you can do something radically different without worry over offending your "fans". It's a great way of going into experimentation, in finding out what works or not.

Quite a possibility too as I've seen some fantastic stuff work from new mappers in mods over the past couple of years. There's nothing to say my map won't be average and yours exceptional - it all depends on what ideas come to your mind at the time. I only ever put what I thought were my best efforts into a mod (and if MCS and others thought it needed a little touch up here and there then I'd do that), and the left overs don't get seen. What you've seen of mine has therefore been picked to pieces before it's been released. What I'll be submitting to a map club will be untested (except by myself), so anything's possible.

If anything it's the likes of Ack, myself, Thomas and the other mappers that others consider to be good mappers that have something to worry about as people expect something good from us - hell, if what I produce is average or poor then I'll cop "gee, AReyeP's mapskills have become cruddy haven't they?" Smile But then I'm not worried about any of that - to me it's just fun, and it'll be great to be doing something Wolf wise again knowing it won't require too heavy a commitment.

Well, maybe a technical issue isn't the best thing to ask about in a poll topic, but I don't want to create new threads or bother anyone with PMs, so here goes...
We are to make a map which will then be compiled with other ones in one mapset, and run with BrotherTank's modified executable, right? Well, no matter what I do and how hard I try, I simply cannot turn off the rain effect on my map. BrotherTank posted an instruction to this on one of the earlier threads which went like that: "spot 0,5 wall value 2 - rain, wall value 3 - snow". Well, possibly I missed something, but in FloEdit which I use, the said spot appears to be 0,6 instead of 0,5 and no matter what wall I put there, I always get either light rain, heavy rain or snow. I want the rain to cease. What to do?

Putting an "Invalid" wall on Position 5,0 seems to fix the problem. To turn off the starry skies completely, put an "Invalid" wall in Position 3,0.

Here's a quick reprint of the guide. Remember, each feature is triggered by walls, not objects:
::: CODE :::
0,0 = Song played for your level
0,1 = Ceiling Colour (0 to 255 as in the wolfenstein palette)
0,2 = Floor Colour (0 to 255 as in the wolfenstein palette)
0,3 = if wall value 1 or higher placed here - Starry Sky is produced...
0,4 = when painting stars - 1 = Red Moon 2 = Blue Moon 3 = White Moon
0,5 = Rain/Snow falling... 2 = Rain 3 = Snow...

Download the new exe

The old one had the shading inverted for the ceiling and floors for some reason (the colours got brighter as the distance increased). I fixed the code and re-compiled it for those wishing to play with it. Tab-S toggles the shading on/off.... and if you find the shading too dark - try lightening the ceiling/floor colours that you are using and that will help as well with the overall look of the shading..

ps: Anyhow... I'll wait till the poll ends... I just stopped by to do the weekly maintanance to the forums files and reset the charts.. so I'm off again..

Other keys worth mentioning:

Tab+B - Disable/enable gun bobbing
Tab+M - Messages on/off
Tab+R - Ratios for Treasure, Secrets, and Kills
Tab+X - Crosshairs on/off

Also, you can use the Comma and Period keys to Strafe left and right, and the Plus and Equal sign to change the size of the window.

Weird bug on my machine - If you pick up any ammo after switching to Knife mode, you're unable to go back to using the pistol again (The game claims you don't have this weapon). Anyone else getting this problem? Confused

I downloaded the new exe, and, sure enough, everything is fine now. Thanks for your response, BrotherTank.

Tricob - using this new executable, I tried to reproduce the problem you mentioned, but I failed, so probably this is just some kind of rare, fancy bug Smile

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a small suggestion - maybe we should get a new thread to discuss technical issues? After all, this is a poll, not an issue-fixing area Smile

Ok... While I know the Poll has yet to be completed... I take it that people really want to do this and for the mostpart, there are little to no objections to the options that I have included in the exe.

So while I still would like to hear your thoughts, I will start a new thread in the Wolf3d section of the forums for the Contest. To those that may have voted NO, and/or voted No in the previous polls. The reason I was upset was not that you voted No, but that in doing so you did not comment on why you voted no. And if you did comment - your comments didn't make sense and/or your questions would have been answered if you had only asked. Do not assume anything. And no question is a dumb question (well maybe there are some, but if you don't understand... ask... ). The rest of my frustration was I want this, but not that, and the next person wanted that, but not this.. Anyhow, that explains my frustration. I've tried to keep the game as true to the original as possible with only minor modifications to the actual game itself in the way that it thinks/operates. The other options are really cosmetic... and don't affect the gameplay itself... But it does give you more control... Anyhow... I'll post the other thread now and that will be the settings for this time around. If you win and want to co-ordinate the third round (as the second will have started when the first winner is chosen, then people will have to use what you offer - if you offer something different??).

Anyhow... Thanks for those that have supported the idea... and even those that voted no.. it would be nice to hear why you chose that option. Not to slam you on it... But if you have concerns, they are welcome and will be heard if you post....

This sounds like fun, brush up on my mapping skills (which i believe aren't very good). I'll see what I can dish out this month.
