I noticed this while testing my completed map using VDMSound. I just tried it with both DOSBox and XP DOS, things seem to behave as expected. Strange.

Re: Crosshair. What happens when you change the crosshair color to the 255 (&HFF) color?
Not tried it, but I imagine it'd be purple.

Re: Red off the top of the view:

I colored over the timer so its colors would not give my map away, but the red covers the bottom half of the timer digits.

Re: Red-based phenomenon. I experienced this problem once before. It only occurs on certain window sizes.

I usually use either a full-screen view or the default size of the original game; BJ's gun doesn't look right to me otherwise. Anyway, I'll see about trying to replicate the problem. Based on your screenshot, you're using the largest size available in the original game. BT's version allows the window to go one size bigger; the catch is that in this size, the ray-tracer really shows it bugs when turning and moving forward simultaneously with the Run button.

I've not been able to finish my map for this month because I've been busy trying to complete the Demo for my mod. Hopefully once we finish the demo I'll be able to submit it for July's contest.

Ok... 10 Maps made it in...

So I've just got the last 2 maps to install and I'll put the release up in the Downloads Section of the forum and Post a Poll will the 10 Maps for you all to start voting on. Play the maps and vote for your favorites, as you have 21 days to pick 3 of your favorites.

Download: Map of the Month Download for July - All Files Included - Anyone can Play & Vote

Let the best Map win!

With that said.... Submissions for the month of July begin now and will run until July 31, 2007. So if you want to participate in the second month of the mapping contest, it's time to start putting your thinking caps on and comming up with an idea. Maybe playing some of the June maps will give you some ideas and spark some creativity...

I'll update the EXE in the next few days to allow for a few more map control items that you have asked for, but for now, continue to use the same exe that we issued for June. When I've updated the exe, I will update the first post with the changes and post here to let you know that it has been updated.

And with that.. once again... For the July Contest and for the June Voting.....

Just to let EVERYONE Know...

There were bugs in the download release for the month.
I have updated the ZIP file for the download.

It fixes the problem with loosing the Pistol when you pick up the Chaingun.
It fixes the problem with the Hans Boss becomming a Guard in certain situations.
It fixes the game crash if you get 100% bonus on all items at end of a level.
It fixes Dying and loosing the Pistol so your starting weapon was just a knife.
It fixes a few other small little things.

It also now has:
(Top row of the map)
Mapspot 0,6 = Turn off Shading if map value = 0
Mapspot 0,7 = Turn off Crosshair if map value = 0

So anyone who has downloaded the Play Set... Download it again. Anyone that wants to participate in next months (July) Mapping Contest. Download that same file and Map from there. That way we don't need Different Apogee versions for people to test their maps. This way everyone will have exactly the same files, with exactly the same code and any possible problems (aka bugs) that may still exist.

I think that clears everything up... So anyone who has downloaded the MMC_June.zip file... Before the Time and Date on this Post... Please download it once again. Trust me... you will be needing the bug fixes that I have put in place... Smile

Sorry for that... my bad.... But at least it's all fixed now...

@Greg - I can't download the file as it seems there's a 100mb limit on downloads for the month that's been used up - is there any other way to download the file?

So how's everyone doing??

Have you started making your maps for July's Contest. So far 1 map has been submitted by a member of the forums and I thought it might be a good time (seeing as there are only 2 weeks left in the month) to see how many people are trying to submit for this month.

It's looks like the first run went over quite well, and it looks like all of the major bugs are out of the way. The only minor bug that may still be there is the Deathcam dying frames where the boss may change graphics for a few seconds. It doesn't affect the game itself... And I have found the problem.. but I'm waiting to see what the winner for June wants to do.

Anyhow... I hope everyone is working on at least 1 map... and that we get more submissions for July.

Thanks for your participation... It's really appreciated...

Hm, I suspect that maybe this map collection is *too* entertaining. Maybe folks can't put it down long enough to put together another map for us. ???

Something like that. Plus when it come to original Wolfenstein maps. I myself am no very great at making maps for it. Theres just no enough stuff for me to use.
Do you think we could have more Spear graphics in the next one?

Yes though, these have been VERY fun to play through. :9 can't wait to see who won June.

@Tricob: That's true. The game is actually quite good for different maps, amde by different authors, for each level. I hope though that people are going to participate like they have said.

@Lozer_42: That will depend on what the winner for June wants to do. If they want a different exe with more graphics, I have one... There are just a few things to clean up in it, but I do have something that everyone might like. But on your point about limited with the original... ah.. I can't see it. There are so many map sets that were released for the original game where it's just maps. It's not necessarily the decoration that you use per say, but it's the challenge and traps that you set in your map that will make the difference. I honestly thought about submitting a map with no decoration other than different walls for different areas - just to prove that point. But if you have played last months maps and seen what they did with the game, I can only say it's an excuse... but if you can't you can't.

@RonWolf... Not a problem. There's still time. Most of the maps for last month came in on the last week. and 3 came in within the last 3 days... I think most of the people were checking and triple checking their maps to make sure they could be completed before sending them to me (although even I missed the end elevator missing on the one submission). Anyhow... again... it's no rush... still 11 days to go.. so send it when you feel comfortable with it.

I've just sent you my July entry Greg, so that should make at least 4 maps so far for July from what I gather. I've started on my August entry too - this map club is quite addictive!

To all those who may be afraid their maps won't be good enough - nonsense! I can tell you now my June entry won't win but that doesn't matter - it's the fun of being in it though. Bear in mind a level doesn't have to be overly complex to be good either, as evidenced by one map from June I voted for as it was just a brilliant nostalgic type level imo and fun to play.

Shocked

The almighty has spoken! *bows down*

Oh, sorry AReyeP, I couldn't help myself. It was instinctive. Sad

lol, jokes aside, I've played the June maps for a bit, and I liked them so far. Incredible idea, I must say. I'll participate sometime too, as soon as TGoEL 1.5 is finished, I'll start map-making.
By the way, is it okay to submit one of your oldbies for an entry? I've found some old, pretty cool stuff lying around on an old hard-drive that I'd like to submit after some esthetic editing.

Good to see you making a July submission, Thomas. I've devised one of my most exciting maps ever for July, and I'd like it to have very fierce competition. Sure to get that from you and AReyeP. ???

This is a really great idea, guys. I'm going to play through last month's, but in the meantime I have an almost-finished map lying around that I'm tweaking to make more difficult (I did most of it early this year). I'm not planning on releasing it for anything, so is that acceptable to submit to this contest? Or do I have to start on the map from scratch?

By all means... Its any map you want to submit... as long as it follows the rules set in the first post... Basically you can use anything from the original game with the exception of the End Game trigger... All the Bosses are configured to drop the yellow key. And in the first few posts you will find other things that you can set in your map using map tiles placed in special locations...

Doesn't matter how old/new the map is... As long as it passes the standards... enter away I say...

Dreams can be extremely useful sometimes. Last night provided me with a general idea and some inspiration for a level, and so I'm currently creating it. I should be able to finish and send it in before the deadline - that is, unless I consider it to be rubbish right after it's done. Smile But if all goes well, you can count on one more level in july contest.

I because of hold ups with Elsas I might have time to submit one for August.

This dream did wonders to my creativity! I don't remember ever designing a level this fast, but I'm actually done with mapping. Now it's just some finishing touches and the last phase of testing, and I'm probably sending my "dreammap" in today. By the way, I wonder how many levels have already been sent...

The end of the Month... 12am August 1ts... is the end of the submission period.. then I will again put the maps into the main mapset (and remove names like I had to do with Thomas's map last month)... and then post a link for the download in a new Thread for August Voting... Smile

So as of this post and my timezone you have 6days 4hours... or thereabouts (given my clock may be off slightly)...

Lol... Enjoy... and thanks for getting in the Spirit..
