Absence - A rather scary Wolfenstein 3-D TC

Started: November 22, 2006
Released: September 9, 2008

Note:

Please read the "Read This!" before start playing the game! A lot of the new features are explained there and without the knowledge, you won't get far in this game.




Absence SDL source code released:

I've decided to release the source code to the SDL version of Absence (Download SDK). The Absence SDK also includes the WDC map definition file (HV1.wmc) that I used to create Absence.

Important notes:

- Do not create patches for Absence and say they would be official patches.
- If you're going to create a mod based on the Absence source code, you have to release your modified source code!




Download Absence DOS Version:

Absence is the successor of the cancelled "The Fall", that some people may remember. Even if the story and atmosphere is similar to "The Fall", you can be sure that I've improved a lot of things and added a lot of new features that I wasn't able to do at the time where I started "The Fall".

Story
The US government has started a secret project for genetic and robotic experiments in the state of New Mexico. One year after the start of the project an accident occurred. The connection to the so-called "Sigma Complex" was lost. No one knows what happened, but someone has to find out. The government decided to send an elite soldier into the complex, with the mission to find the last known documents about Professor Tom Baker's experiments and to destroy the complex, with the second objective to eliminate all failed lab experiments, and to see if anyone, or anything, has survived...

Looks very interesting, both story and graphic-wise.

Though I think that those "real-life" claims of some people about american secret goverment will be better direction to the story.

I do everything myself, except for the graphical part. Well, I created all main menu graphics, the HUD and some smaller graphics, but the other graphics were done by several people Smile

Absence shall be just pseudo realistic and not related with real ... conspiracies. Besides some of your ideas you've posted here are handled in the game "Deus Ex" (which I'm a big fan of) Wink And no, I'm not going to take any of your / these ideas.

It's been awhile since I last posted anything about "Absence" here, so I do it now:

First of all, the project is still alive and making good progress, even though slowly.

Secondly since today there are four new screenshots of Absence to see on my moddb.com-entry for this modification. Have a look at them here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/9573/absence

Thirdly I try to release the modification at the end of this year or the first quarter of 2008. I can't promise anything though, because I've to learn for my technical diploma.

Anyway, I do try to update this page more frequently now. Stay tuned! Smile

Nice to see you are still working on this! Impressive graphics and cool plot. It's nice to play something not WWII related sometimes.
Looks like a must play mod Smile

One question though, are you planning on moving that machine gun looking weapon over to the right or when he fires it does it change position?
I'm sure you know how to from what I remember on MSN chats a long time ago (Smile) but here's the code change for reference for others who may not know and to save a post.

I just wanted to let you know that the mod now has a Mod DB site up. Head on over for some new and/or exclusive screenshots at:

I also would like to say that the mod is in beta status now and was already sent to a couple of beta testers which shall ensure that the gameplay is unique and not boring. So the release come a little nearer. Thumbs Up

The condemned live longer!

Good news: Absence nearing completion and we're working hard to get the game done til next month. I'm working on the last maps and the graphic artists creating the last sprites. There are two new screenshots at moddb: check them out here.

Well, Absence is almost done! All that's left to do now is to correct the in-game texts (what mbender currently does) and code tweaking. Apart from that, the game is done Smile

The final beta test will start within the next days and the release will be next month. That's because I want to have at least 2 weeks for the final beta test.

I don't want to give you an exact release date yet, but be sure that it'll some time next month. I'll post the release date here, when I'm completely sure that everything working out how I want it to. So cross your fingers Thumbs Up Wink
