I had the idea of, when a boss sees you, for the music to change to a short, tense IMF that would loop until the boss is killed, whereupon the music would return to normal. I ripped and converted some MIDIs from Wing Commander II for this purpose (for my 60-level "Wolfenstein Sextilogy" set, which includes my previous Episode 1 Revisited add-on as the first episode), but I need someone who is decent at coding to come up with a tutorial for it before I can implement it.

So does anyone have a possible implementation for this idea? Thanks in advance.

The called music being smaller than the original song would not be a problem, as none of these boss loops are over 30 seconds iong.

Whoa, that's quite a coincidence... I've been listening to Wing Commander II music and thinking about how well some of it would fit in a Wolfenstein mod, if converted properly. WCII has a John Williams-esque "military" score. I particularly liked the boss battle music it plays when you're fighting Prince Thrakhath.

I worked on a music-changing feature before, but haven't worked on it since I discovered the limitation that was mentioned in the other thread. I suppose I could write a tutorial on how to use my method, if you really wanted...

You're right. Changing TO the boss music is not a problem, but say the person saves a game while the boss music is playing, then reloads the game to defeat the boss. The level's original music would probably not play due to the memory limitation.

That's a good point, and I wouldn't have thought of that. Perhaps only for DeathCam bosses (Schabbs, Hitler, Giftmacher, Fettgesicht), then.

Well, I might end up using it for the DeathCam bosses, so please do so. Yes, I ripped quite a few songs from Wing Commander II. Prince Thrakhath's theme (from the cutscenes on the Hhai'fra) is the title screen music, Admiral Tolwyn's office theme is the main menu, and some other choice pieces end up in various levels. The problem is that many of the combat songs are very short, hence my using them as boss combat songs.

Yeah, switching songs is the easy part... the biggest pain is that memory issue. I haven't had a big enough chunk of time to really get the grasp of the ins and outs of Wolf3D's memory manager. I just know the basics about it.
