Here it is, after hassles getting the forums to behave (I kept getting bombed out), The Die Hard Wolfers Map of the Month Competition for September 2007!!!

Everyone has been busy lately and this month we only have 8 levels. But something tells me this isn't going to make the voting process any easier as I think there'll be some excellent levels this time around.

Everyone seems to be impatient after 21 days of waiting, and being there's only 8 levels this time, I've run the poll for 2 weeks (14 days). This way I feel it'll give everyone a chance to play, see the results, and then we still have over two weeks to focus on making levels for next month (the October MMC) without being distracted by the poll for the current month or trying to get the hang of using the new features that'll be made available for use in next month's competition.

Anyway, enough rambling, here it is:

MAP OF THE MONTH DOWNLOAD SEPTEMBER 2007 - DOWNLOAD HERE: www.areyep.com/Mmc_sept.zip

And as Greg would say, and so now too will I ...

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

Same as Ronwolf here. Fortunately, I have free time on my hands now, so I'm off to play immediately.

The fact that there's only 8 levels slightly concerns me, but hopefully it's solely a matter of others being busy, not lack of interest.

I have to wait a whole week to see the results, I'll be on a school trip for a week when the results are shown. I still have to wait 21 days to see the results. Smile

Like Tricob, I didn't get one finished this month. I probably could have completed something, but it does mean that I can take it easier and just have fun with these maps without worrying where mine will place. Looking forward to playing these!

I could find myself asking for a Walkthrough on one of the levels, but it's too early to say. Smile

The map layouts are the most professional ever. I'm going through maps that are *crammed* with delights. Great job, guys! Thumbs Up Cake Party

All I'm going to say about 'Look both ways' is to be patient when playing it.

I had a look at 'Little surprise' that is one hectic start to a level. must say I got killed a couple of times working out which way to go and remembering where the Health is and stuff. All the levels I've looked at so far have been really challenging.

Well, there are some really wicked maps this month... Dying n times in a row isn't exactly what I like, but I'll try to do my best before casting my votes. Maybe it's just me being too weak player, but I have a feeling that if it wasn't for some maps' difficulty level, I'd enjoy them far more.

I've found some levels harder than others. Level one had me stumped for a while; I actually cheated and looked at the map to finally find out where the heck the elevator was. Gotta admit I felt pretty stupid. Embarassed

Wshew, so I managed to find some time this evening and could vote already... I have to admit that some maps had me literally infuriated. Perhaps I'm not a good enough player. Anyway, I feel that my choice was fair, even though it wasn't easy. All the maps represented very high quality this month.
I really wish that Map of the Month will last for as long as possible, so the apparent decrease of interest really concerns me... hopefully the discussion here will move on, and next month, we will have more levels and more movement around. Can't wait for this, as well as September's results!

I too hope that interest isn't waning as the contest has reignited my interest in Wolf after I'd gone stale for some time. Plus it's seen Greg's vision of "Wolfenstein Advanced", which I'd always hoped to see, slowly come around to one of the best packages ever for Wolf modding. And the quality of levels has improved dramatically making for some great gameplay every month. And having played all the levels this month, I really believe there are 3 or more levels that beat mine hands down, so I'm hoping this will inspire people.

Out of curiosity, how many people are planning to submit maps for October? If we can plan ahead, then we'll get an idea of where we're going.

So far I've only made it to level 3. Level 1 was way too difficult, even on "Can I Play Daddy". Level 2 was much better. Level 3 has too many bosses. So far though, the level design is 5 star material.

I've been out of the Wolfenstein loop for a long time, but I'd love to submit some levels into the contest.

We have RonWolf & RyWolf?

I've only played 2 of the 8 levels this month so far. I keep planning to play them but when I sit down to start I get easily distracted by other things at the moment which also seems to to happen with my map for next month.

I do plan on entering though, whether I do or not is a different thing but I do plan to enter...

My map is planned to be ready for release by the end of the month as well, but it'll have to go farther than my less map did. At least I've got a better concept to work with, though.

Who - hoah major bug in the download folks! When loading my saved game in Level 1 (just before opening a door to a secret area containing some unexpected, retro-game themed enemies) the game crashes What? and I get this:

Error code: 0 x 1037 :Wolfenstein 3-D Error!:

Maybe it's just my specific computer setup that causes this, or the emergence of these particular enemies, but can anyone help? I really want to finish this level before moving on........

Ummm...I've just discovered the TAB-W function which allows me to warp to the other levels Embarassed .

By the way, I'm certainly not expecting anyone to drop everything to look at my Level 1 issue, especially with the awful time BT's been having. Just if anyone has any suggestions.....

@mbender: I've seen the particular enemies also, but the game didn't crash when I was playing it. So I don't know what's going on.

Well I know exactly what you're talking about as I had the same thing happen. To avoid people wondering just what we're talking about, I'll have no choice but to mention "Pacman". The game froze a number of times on my laptop when I let these guys loose - in the end I just avoided letting them loose. I don't know if this happens in the newest exe file, but we can always ask Greg about this when he's home and feeling well.

Thanks Areyep. In fact, in my experience of playing mods Pacmen seem prone to causing crashes wherever they appear for some reason. Pesky little blighters!

It's odd that when reloading, the game crashes at a point even before the door to the Pacmen is opened, so long as it's been opened (and the Pacmen released) on at least one prior occasion.

I'm now well into Level 2 (Fortress)......

Since I had so much time on my hands today, I completed all 8 levels today in Septembers contest. I have to say, it's really hard to choose which ones I really like best because they were all really good. I think Fortress and Line of Thought were the two that caught my eye most.

If U see an error and get the number, it will tell me (along with where an what U were doing at the time) I can try and track down the problems.

I've played a little of each level today, and will try to play a little more over the next week... I've sort of managed to be able to use both hands for the joystick... just can't move the right arm or shoulder in a sling.

Hope that list helps...

Good to hear from you Greg Smile ! There's definitely no rush with this, as I'm going on to play the other levels in the meantime, and I can review Level 1 up to that point anyway and vote accordingly.

My error was:

Error code: 0 x 1037 :Wolfenstein 3-D Error!:

....which seems to correspond to:

ERR_PM_INVALID_PAGE_REQ, // 0x1037 "PM_GetPage: Invalid page request"

It happens when I reload my saved game on Level 1, just before opening a door to a secret area containing Pacmen.

Three days remaining for voting and the results will be known... Unlike in previous months, the waiting was rather short and not noticeable, perhaps because there was amazingly little discussion this time. Amazingly, because all the levels are difficult, of high quality, and worth at least a few words. Well, perhaps after the results are know, some more detailed debacles will start.
28 votes isn't a lot too, last month there were like seven people more voting. But then, the level count is lower, too... Generally, this month seems to be smaller in every aspect than previous ones - except for level quality, that is.
I have my favourites, but will probably go into more specific discussion after the voting period is over. Good luck for everyone, by the way. Smile

Three more days... I wounder if Steve won again. Laughing I too am a bit surpriesd at the lower number of voters. Only 11 people. Maybe we just have bunch of late voters.

I too am a bit excited on what the results might be. Now, I haven't been around the wolf comunity that long as to be able to guess who made which map, but I do have a couple of ideas of who did what. But I mu8st wait till later to talk about that.

...Can't wait Beer

I'm only voting for one map this month. I've played them all and there were some standouts, the problem is that I'm learning peoples mapping styles quite well and I'm sure I could name and get a lot of the entries right. I have voted for my favorite map though (It just happens to have been made by one of my favorite mappers).

Good luck to everyone who entered. AlthoughI think it would be nice for someone else to win I'm still excited at the thought of Steve winning every month and then come years end having a mod released with all the winning entries from each month. In a way it's a new mod from AReyeP, which I'm sure is something we would all love!
