OK, no more waiting - Finally here is the Die Hard Wolfers Map of the Month Competition for October 2007!!!
Only 6 levels this month with some of our regular contributors being tied up. But these 6 levels make use of the new features of the latest exe, so I think we've got some very interesting gameplay to look forward to.
The award graphics have already been made up for whoever wins, and this time I added a special 4th award for the toughest map of the set. This 4th award is the "Death Incarnate Award", and unlike the other awards won't be decided by the poll, but by general consensus after the poll has closed. So it may be possible to win two awards this time - 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, plus the Death Incarnate Award.
The October MMC can be downloaded from here: http://areyep.com/diehardwolfers/MMC/MmcOct07.zip
The awards up for grabs are:
1st place:
2nd place:
3rd place:
Death Incarnate Award (toughest level):
So...
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! |

Okay, not sure if this is normal but when I entered Floor 3 after beating Floor 2, the ceiling and floor were both black. I ended up getting killed and when the level reloaded, the ceiling was teal and the floor was grey. Did anyone else experience this strange bug?
Great job on Floor 2 by the way. I won't spoil it for those who haven't played yet, but I will say this much, it doesn't end like you think it will.
Okay, I'm gonna take a break for the night. |

| I swear I must be prone to the most bizarre bugs in Wolfenstein history. I was on level 4 firing at a boss (again, don't wanna spoil anything so I won't say who) and suddenly my chaingun jams and it starts turning into random sprites. Anything from a frame of General "Fatface" dying to a frame of Hitler firing at me to just a random tree or other item. It just kept changing until finally the game froze. |

My only problem so far is that when I warp to Level 3 or greater, no machine gun is ever dropped by an SS. It might only be triggered when you load a game, but I can't tell yet.
Funny, I seem to have a lot of SS-related problems lately ... |

Hmm, I was wondering about that in Level 4 (which I'm still having a time beating). I thought, surely the designer didn't intend you to go through most of the level with only a pistol. Luckily I found the chaingun, but didn't get a machine gun until much later in the level. Maybe that was the plan all along though. |

I'm finishing Level 1 at the moment and have noticed two problems (not sure if they're bugs or not):
1. After reloading a saved game, a wierd "fog" or whitening effect appeared. It was like something had gone wrong with the shading. I couldn't replicate this.
2. The Run function doesn't seem to work. Also, when I started the level there were alarming variations in my speed of movement.
There could well be rational explanations for the above - can anyone help or comment? |

Run does work, you've got to watch the little bar next to the face, when it's not red you can run. While running that bar goes from green to yellow and then to red...
This has been explained before...
Yes, the "running out of gas" feature. While I appreciate its realism, and how well it is executed, I am not a fan of this. I like to run as much as possible, and this feature cramps my style. Besides, I think most of what makes Wolfenstein fun to play are its non-realistic features: chaingun held in one hand, while holding 99 or more ammo packs, plus treasures (which make a cool sound when you pick them up), and three or more other weapons. You can go back in time to before you were "killed" to retrace your steps more carefully, etc. etc. etc.
Just my two cents,
Andy |

I've found a couple of bugs as well.
1). The running. If you start a level normally then go out into the controls and change the key that you use to run with (Say from RShift to LShift) the running stays on all the time whether you are using shift or not. Makes it very difficult to control and shoot accurately and you can only go so far without having to stop for the adrenaline to go back up again.
2). If you run out of ammo and are then killed you restart with the knife and not the pistol. I'm sure you start with 6 ammo but yuo have to change back to the pistol from the knife. |

Andy, you make a really good point. When designing a level or adding features, trying to add some realism to the game is important. However, it's also important to realize that this is also a game. In real life, do you think the nazi's left dinners and ammo clips scattered throughout their bunker? Or treasure's for that matter... I'm willing to bet not.
