There's been a Mac OS X version floating around for a while now. This port has been built for Intel only, and only tested on Mac OS X 10.6.5. For those interested in trying out the Mac OS X port, here it is. Chris Ballinger did this port single-handedly, AFAIK; I hope he might have Mac executables of other mods compiled and posted in the future. Smile

I actually got this also to compile on Ubuntu Linux. I haven't looked too much into it, but it does cause, in fullscreen mode, to make my screen-size to change.

That's good news, as I'm hoping to get it running in Ubuntu as well. My plan is to have this very machine use a dual-boot OS, with Windows 7 and Ubuntu as "partner" operating systems. Smile

I had Win7, XP, and Ubuntu all booting, but XP's bootloader broke EVERYTHING. Linux compiling is quite simple.
1) Get the sdl libraries
sudo apt-get install libsdl-1.2dev
and
sudo apt-get install libsdl_mixer-1.2dev

I believe those are the ones, this is all from memory of course.

Compile the makefile

make install

and then the only problem i came across was that the filenames were case sensitive, all lowercase, so change the files to lowercase.

run it

./wolf3d --windowed

cuz it'll change your screensize, it did for me. That's all, try it out, it's actually really simple. Very Happy

Even though I haven't had much time to program Wolf3D, I did this in one of my classes, because I was bored.

You can still get Wolf4SDL v1.7 r262 (latest version) from the svn. The information are in these posts:

Some of the Chaos Software Files can be downloaded at http://www.mediafire.com/?5agx46outlwn4qn. Included in the zip is Wolf4SDL 1.7, Wolf4SDL 1.7A, and Wolf4SDL 1.8. The 1.8 version might have been created by another Wolfenstein fan. I still need to archive the previous SDL source codes. I might have to look for them on the internet. If anyone has any of the previous files, please email the files to me at jpb681991@yahoo.com.

The only change I don't agree with is the "Move Pushwall 3 Squares Instead Of 2" change. Unless you run the EXE with Andy's extra parameter every single time you start the EXE, the original Wolf3D and SOD maps won't run the Pushwalls properly in many instances.

I kept that factor in mind when I was designing the Base Of Operations source code. If you wanted to have the Pushwall move 3 squares instead of 2, you'd just change a number in an H file. But when you think about it, very few modders would want their Pushwalls to move more than three squares. Having it use a "#define" flag instead of a "#define" number makes more sense, IMO. Smile

I've updated the Wolf4SDL revision 262 source to make it a bit more user-friendly out of the box for Dev-C++ users. The previous version was straight from a fresh svn checkout. The changes:

(if you are compiling for the GP2X, you must use the fmopl files from the GP2X subfolder instead)

The files in the Dev-C++ Wolf4SDL.dev project are now what you need to compile a vanilla Wolf3d or Spear of Destiny EXE for Windows.

The files for features

wl_floorceiling.cpp

Also, if there are any code::blocks (or other) tweaks that are needed to start up Wolf4SDL 262 out of the box, I'd appreciate if someone would pass them on, and I'll include them in this package.

I don't believe they are compiled if the preprocessor directives aren't defined in Version.h, so it shouldn't matter. I believe they were just forgotten about when working on fixes on one specific compiler.

are not in the project and must be added on an as-needed basis. (Q: Should they be left out? Do they encumber the performance or enlarge the EXE if included and not used?)
Adding these to the project does enlarge the EXE in Dev C++. I do intend to use other compilers with the code in the future, but I'm programming with BASIC rather than C at the moment (Yeah, I'm back to enhancing my Texture Generator again).

The hostname 'tron.homeunix.org' has become unknown to SVN. Presumably the Wolf4SDL code is no longer hosted and maintained by Ripper.

Interesting. Is Matthew behind this project? It states that it is "just a modification of Wolf4SDL (http://www.chaos-software.de.vu) to support mouselook."

EDIT: This is quite an old project based on back-level code, with no activity as of yet:

Project registered: 03/26/2010
Initial import of the v1.6 (rev 233) code: 03/27/2013 (unchanged)
Last Update: 05/02/2013

So there is an SVN repository to access, but I find it useless because it is based on older code.

There's also a port to Ubuntu. Sadly, I'll all but guarantee that bugfixes newer than v1.7 are not included in this release.

I know it's not Ripper's official release but haven't we improved on it beyond what Ripper's done for a long time? Should we list the DHW's 4SDL for download externally of the forum?

As long as we make it clear that Ripper is no longer the project's current maintainer, I can't really object to this. Ripper hasn't made any objections to our updates in the past. Smile I myself would prefer that DHWs continue maintaining the source rather than let it go the way of NewWolf.
