im to lazy to do this! there should be a thing that has all this stuff done. and all you need is to put wolf3d files in..

It was screwed up or it was moved to a different path on the server. Either way they both have been addressed. I'll probably have a Linux tutorial merged into this one soon.

i keep getting: WL_DEF.h error
"#include <SDL.H.>
no such file or directory.

You need to install the SDL library before the code will compile.

Temporary change for now; the auto installer can be found here. Please rename install_sdl7z to intall_sdl.7z.

I've compiled it and everything, but when I try to run it I get the message "No Wolfenstein 3D Data Files to be found!"

It sounds like you have it compiled for the wrong version of the Wolf3D files. If you could post what Wolf3D version you used as a base (Shareware 10-level, Spear 21-level, etc.), and what's in your VERSION.H file, we can take it from there. Smile

The version of WL6 that I own is the 1994 Activision version 1.4. Is that version compatible?

That message also happens if your exe is not in the same directory as the game files. The exe will look for VSWAP.WL6 there first if you haven't changed anything in version.h. Where did you find the Wolf4SDL source code and what version of it are you using? Activision v1.4 should work by default in the official version, same with the GT and ID v1.4, similar to using the DOS source code.

edit: I think the Activision version is actually from 1997 or 98? On mine the exe says 01/27/1998. Not that it should matter.

I am using this version of the source:

My version.h has this line in it. Could this be my problem?

Yes. That is absolutely the problem! The person who made the pull request should have not added DATADIR as the default. Not sure how much of this needs reverting, maybe just replacing "/usr/share/games/wolf3d/" with "" will be enough. Let us know.

I tried replacing it with "" and "./" and neither of that worked. Is there a better version of the source that I should be using?

That one worked. Game started and plays flawlessly.

I will release the DOS version of my mod first of course, but this gets me started towards an SDL version not long after.

Edit: I think I have this figured out. I am going to use Notepad++ to compare the code for Hollentaufer with the original code and go file by file, porting over the changes. Will take a while but shouldn't be too difficult.

Alright, so I successfully compiled and ported my mod. Having used DOS for Wolf all these years I never really jumped on the SDL bandwagon but I have to say it is pretty nice.

So my anti-virus decided to delete CodeBlocks from my system as it considered it to be malicious.

Make sure you exempt C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks on your AV program.

What anti-virus are you running? Neither of mine have any problem with it.

Also, are you sure you got Code::Blocks from the offical source?

I use Microsoft Defender. I know it's not the best, but everything else I've tried noticeably slows down my computer.

I downloaded CodeBlocks from the link in the first post in this thread.

That's one of the ones I'm using, and it hasn't given me a false positive. The link in the first post is correct, though, so I'm not sure what it's doing.

Hi, I am new around here and I am trying to compile the Wolf4SDL (https://sourceforge.net/p/wolf4sdl-mlook/code/HEAD/tree/) based on this tutorial (followed all steps), I am kind of not accustomed to C++ and I get all sorts of errors (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9hcLtBSBwGpN0RlWjJfNUVOY0k) and I can't wrap my head around them, been trying to compile for 1 day...any help? thanks in advance Very Happy
