Everytime I add new digital sounds to the engine. the game crushes when I press "New Game"
the source itself complies without any errors and I don't get any "uncached sound" error when the game crushes..
I'm doing everything by the book.. any reason it is happening?!

Please tell me what you mean exactly by "by the book". Start from a clean activision 1.4 data set and explain in detail what you do. Also describe the code changes you apply to make the sounds work. Perhaps also send me the sounds you added, unless you can reproduce this my for example adding the first time multiple times. It's also important where you add them and with which programs, of course.
I can only help you, if I can reproduce this.

PS: Could it be that you just added digitized sounds and no adlib and pc speaker sounds? The Wolfenstein 3D data format enforces that there is an adlib AND a pc speaker sound for EVERY digitized sound. With the original Wolf3D source code it just worked because it couldn't crash when it read from wrong memory. In a 32-bit system, it does.

By the book I mean that I followed the MCS's tutorial on how to add digitized sounds.
I added the sound to the audiosod.h files since I'm using the SPEAR code. I added the sound with your creation, Chaos-Edit, the newest edition (1.27)
I added the sounds to the audiosod.h file, wl_main.cpp file and to the wl_agent.cpp file since I wanted it to be a sound that will replace that pinchy sound that the knife makes..
I hope it makes any sense.. Now it mostly crushes after the title screen, I don't even get to see the menu |:
And I get no errors when the game crushes.. It's like it's super bugged or something >_<

In AUDIOSOD.H, removes the two lines near the beginning, starting with the one that says "NUMSOUNDS". Then search for "#define STARTPCSOUNDS". The lines below that should be changed to look like this:

#define STARTMUSIC          (3*LASTSOUND)

doesnt work at all.. the game still crushes after the title screen... and the music doesn't work too..
PLEASE SOMEBODY! Sad HEEEEEEEEEEELPP!
I did everything correctly why does the game crushes after the title screen??
I just added 2 new sounds to the engine.. that's it..

sometimes the game works with the batch file I made it has inside this parameter

Wolf4SDL.exe ----resf 640 400
sometimes it work for a couple of minutes and when I press "escape" during the game it crushes..
and sometimes it doesnt work at all..

I really don't understand why the game crushes.. since I only put mere coding features.. I'm sure it's not out of memory or something like that...

Would it be possible to allow mapping original PC/AdLib sounds to the digitized sounds. I know that this is problematic, because currently the sound parameter in SD_PlaySound(soundnames sound), refers to the AdLib sound not the Digitized one. Maybe if there was a separate SD_PlayDigiSound() function and Wolf4SDL did not assume that AdLib/PC speaker sounds exist for a mod.

I know I sound very confusing, but I'll try to clarify my point if you don't understand.

@Raziel: I'm sorry, but the way sounds in Wolf4SDL currently work is not compatible to the way ChaosEdit adds sounds. Please use WDC to add new sounds.

@Codetech84: I don't know... I would like it to just work the way it did with MCS tutorial, but I guess (at least with the current version of ChaosEdit) it's just broken by design. The SoundTable array won't point to something useful for the new sounds, so there is no other way than crash... ARGH!
I don't think the special version for only digitized sounds makes much sense unless you don't allow the player to use Adlib sounds instead of digitized ones.
I'm confused and don't know what to do... Apart from closing this browser and continue my stupid diploma thesis for which I only have one week left *panic*

I tried to add the sounds with WDC... it enters the game and when I attack with the knife and waiting to hear the sounds.. I get lots of sounds.. dogs, guards, opening doors, closing doors, shooting sounds...
and when I press escape to get to the menu... the game crushes Very Happy
I think there's nothing to do.. I mean if you don't know what to do and you're a code master I don't think anyone can =\

My confusion was only about, how to make Wolf4SDL accept broken sound data (i.e. where adlib/pc sounds are missing for added digitized ones).
It should definately work, if you use WDC, so please don't give up!
I am sure, there are others here who already did this with success! I just don't have the time to try it myself Sad

Like I said. I used WDC and it really doesn't work.. all I get is all of the sounds together... when I use the knife.. instead of the sound I have inserted
I get the doors, guards, dogs, shootings.... whatever you just want.. all the sounds together.. I really don't know what to do |:

Too bad I'm not using the Wolf3d side of the engine.. I use the SPEAR side of the engine.. How can I get this tutorial work for the spear side of the engine?

It's the same for both sides....

You just add the sound in a different spot in the wl_main.cpp file. You will see the Spear sounds are on their own as well. Also the first file he mentions (audiowl6.h) on the spear side is audiosod.h

well i added a sound but when i start the game the title music changed.....then after the title screen the game booms out.....

I've even tried the Tutorials that Haasboy mention but that didn't work...

I really don't understand, how it could not work, I just retested it - compared the results to the orginal game (music wise) - AND NO PROBLEM.

Here's the game for you to see for your self - The added sound is "YEAH" (Episode 1 end sound) but it happens when you alert a guard!

I did that too and the game title music has changed..
Do I need to add PCspeaker sound and ADLIB sound too? if so How do I make adlib or pcspeaker sound?

Not if you name the digitized sound a name that is already in the AUDIOWL6.H file, such as NAZIHITPLAYERSND.

Some reason, if you don't add PC and ADLIB sound the game will crash.

I've tested without adding the those two sounds and the engine does in deed crash...
