Greetings to everyone!

This time, I composed something different Smile Instead of just fixing together a couple of MIDIs, I've converted a handful of carefully selected IMF music files for ya, making it easier to enjoy! The archive contains 22 wonderful IMF tunes, all tested and are working properly (tested in WDC). Until someone could host the IMF music collection, I decided to keep it here on my hard drive. If someone needs the IMF music pack of mine, write an answer, or perhaps a private message, and I'll be happy to send it over. The songs should fit in any possible add-ons or TCs.

The archive contains the following:

- Behind bars
- Black Butterfly
- Das Boot
- Dictature Rock
- Encirclement
- Face your fears!
- Human BBQ
- I am
- Lost in the storage
- Moi Lolita
- Moonlight Desolator
- Nazi Blues
- Oil Refinery
- Over the hills and far away
- Process Singularity
- Scoring
- SS Officers are coming!!!
- Super Star
- The coast is clear...
- They are gonna GET ya!
- Wondering about my loved ones 2
- Worms' hole
- You Are Empty

This looks really cool. Have you thought about making it into a replacement for AUDIOT.WL6/AUDIOHED.WL6 pack and uploading it to the Dome? I'm sure a lot of people could benefit from a fresh mix of music to play wolf3d or mapsets/mods in. There's so many standalone level patches and graphics patches out there, but hardly any standalone music patches! Music

I'd enjoy checking this out, for sure man. Feel free to send them to the email on my msn button if you like. Smile

Very well Chris Smile)) One of them (SS Officers are coming!) may sound familiar to you, yet this time I converted'em to IMF, and it sounds even better (at least in my opinion).

I knew very well that there are VERY few free IMF tunes to use for various Wolf3D or Spear projects, so I decided to share my works to evereyone. Be sure to check'em out, as I'll happily transfer the package over your address Wink

Good news! I've finally been able to find a MIDI editor which allows a lot more features WITHOUT screwing up the MIDI file itself, so the IMF comes out in perfect condition. So I updated the archive with a few hits from the boards:

- Arash - Arash
- Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
- Madonna - Power of goodbye
- Mariah Carey - Can't live without you
- Backstreet boys - Everybody
- Get to France
- Christina Milian - When you look at me
- Status Quo - In the army now
- Korridors Krusade
- Tanita Tikaram - Twist in my sobriety

Most of them were converted from MP3 files with a surprisingly good result, so I decided to add these to the IMF pack. Oh, and don't bother about copyright issues - IMF music files are NEVER copyrighted Very Happy

It's the music that's copyrighted, not the files. So technically, the Backstreet Boys could break bad on you if you used their music in your mod without permission. The likelihood, however, is pretty slim.

Hm, you're right about this Smile Luckily, these are not the whole songs (you know....64kb limit), they're like samples, so no one should make problems out of this Smile At least I hope...

Even samples are under copyright, really, but like I mentioned, I don't think any of them are going to go track you down. Smile

Depends on the size but I think you'd be above the limitation. I believe that's how torrents work, by dealing in portions so small that they don't breach copyright independantly.

It has nothing to do with the size of the file. Torrents are illegal if they are torrents of copyrighted material. The copyright is on the end result, not the delivery method.

Then how do torrent sites survive? Is it because they don't actually carry any of the copyrighted material themselves?

Surely there must be some legality that makes any website dealing with torrents as breaching copyright.

Correct, torrent sites don't host the files themselves, but they can be used as a way to get to copyrighted material. It'd be like shutting down Firefox because someone viewed child porn using their browser. That's why the RIAA and MPAA are going after the users sharing the files themselves. Though they have gone, unsuccessfully, after some torrent sites, the pirate bay comes to mind.

Good news, people! I've been finally able to dig deep in the MIDI files, and figure out a method, how to shorten them, and cut them to the appropiate areas, where the songs should loop during gameplay. Which means, my IMF pack will be a LOT better than before. So far I got 60 tunes in the pack - some from Doom 1 and 2 alright. I figured out that certain sounds make the music crash, so I also had to recompose many of these tunes with extremely hard work.

Stay tuned, I'll inform you when the archive is finally completed Smile

Couldn't you include "un-cut" versions of these IMFs? Wolf4SDL and IMF Creator can have the 64K barrier removed now. Smile

Even with the barrier removed, I still had to cut them several parts (the 64K limit was the least of my concerns). A lot of MIDIs had a "rotten" part, which HAD to be cut out, or else it'll crash the song. Plus, I also have to "cut" them to make'em loop, and not just stop, and start from the beginning again Smile

I also use IMF Creator, and it screams if I reach the 64K limit, so I can't really preserve more of these songs than 64K.

By the way, what kind of music y'prefer? Happy music, sad depressing music, or perhaps both? Smile

If you set the IMF Format to Wolf4GW, you remove the 64k limit.

I'm really after action-oriented music, but considering the tone shouldn't be *too* happy, I guess it should be a little depressing. At this point in time, I'm really after only a few new IMFs, and several movie-style OGGs or MP3s. MOD and S7M/S3M format will also do. Note that the non-IMF material is only for the mod I make after WolfDX. Smile

Remember to include in your archive the copyrights of the songs that you have collected and give credit to the authors... As Adam explained earlier, not that we expect them to come looking, but if they do, that way you haven't claimed their work as yours...

Remember the "Take Note" page on the Bunker... And of all people/companies, you know that iD still watches out for their property.

Very well, the IMF archive shall contain a textfile, which'll clarify which IMF files were converted from Doom or Duke Nukem songs, and which ones have been made from blank paper. In this case, I only claim the rights of "correcting" these songs (for example, removing the cymbals from the tune, which'll make the song crash after 1-2 seconds), or replace the existing instruments with new ones (you might have found out that not ALL instruments has the same volume in an IMF file. For example: Strings ensemble and piano is unimaginibly quiet, whilst Percussive organ, Square and Sawtooth is always loud, no matter what volume level you adjust in the MIDI file).

And of course, removing unnecessary tracks, which'd just take up space, and "knock out" the main stream track of the song because of the 8 note limit.

Here are 23 new tunes included in the archive - I warn you, some of them might REALLY rock your add-on!!!

- We will FUNK you!
- Call to victory
- After nightfall
- Mission briefing music (meant to replace main menu also!)
- There are no means of escape
- The Fortification
- Tower Power
- It was night, late at night
- Unstoppable
- My December (Linkin Park)
- Genie in the bottle (Christina A.)
- Wet, slimy tunnels
- Wolfenstein Elegy
- When trouble arises
- Wanting to go home (can be also applied to main menu - briefing music)
- Korridors Krusade
- Over the hills and far away [part 2] (Nightwish)
- SS Officers are coming!!! [part 2]
- BJ is the elite [part 1]
- BJ is the elite [part 2]
- BJ is the elite [part 3]
- Wood panelling everywhere!
- Grab the Spear and RUN!

Very well Smile Good idea! Just make sure you create a new option for "Music resource" or something like that. There are game sprites, wall sprites, and such, now it's time to have a "Music option" as well.

All 100 IMF files are ready to get pasted into an add-on, nothing more is needed to be done wit'em.

I've created a 'Sounds & Music' section. So far the link to it is only on Dome News but I'll link it to other Dome pages as they are updated. The IMF Music Pack has been posted and is on the Dome News and the new Sounds & Music page. http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/news.htm

I checked out some of the tunes and I think they'll be very useful for Wolf3D mod making. Smile

Thank you Smile I'm most pleased about the positive feedback. Surely, not ALL tunes are perfect (as I mentioned in the textfile, there are some minor "phantom" problems with 1-2 tunes, when the game plays a note that is actually not there), but it's simply impossible to create better IMFs from MIDIs than these. It took me 1 week to complete this archive, I just hope nobody shall be disappointed by this archive Smile

(I used Anvil Studio for MIDI editing, if anyone asks)
