It was a really fun game acutually. Why was it considered so bad when it came out? There was nothing wrong with it i thought.

From what I've read, the full game was considered much less entertaining than the Shareware release.

It was considered bad mainly due to timing, I believe. Doom came out December 1993 and Corridor 7 came out in March 1994. The gaming world no longer wanted Wolf3D lookalikes and wasn't willing to give them a chance.

Well that, and Conventional Memory requirements. With the Wolf3D engine, you could have 8 MB of RAM and the game could still say you didn't have enough memory. This is speaking of Conventional Memory, which Doom and newer engines don't need. Smile

Cool. The 30-level disk version or the 40-level CD version?

My friend beat it too. I haven't, but it was interesting watching him play / seeing some of the upper levels.

I like it how when you die in the disk version, you're just dead. There's no lives or anything. Haha.

You've inspired me to give it another shot now. I always enjoyed the game's colourful animations and catchy music.

I know a lot of people in the old games scene don't really like this game. I wrote a review for Abandonia and gave it 4 out of 5 and was pretty much shot down by everyone else who could be bothered posting a comment. Very Happy I also got a similar response to Marathon 2, though, so it's rather moot. Smile That reminds me, I haven't played the CD version yet. I have it lying around somewhere. Smile

Which goes to show that then, like now, gamers are driven mostly by flashy new tech. Smile

I finished Corridor 7 several years ago, and I'd have to say, the designers certainly gave it a good effort. There was just something about it that was a turnoff for me. Maybe it was the overly cartoony alien art style, or the rapid jerky seeming movement, or the fact that visually, it looked like it should play better than it did, if that makes any sense at all. True, it had some awesome innovations, like the stations on the walls with health and ammo, damaging fields, that final boss enemy popping up in your face in ghost form at random during levels, and the weird "walls" near the end that had eyeballs that opened up if you pushed them (this kept me from searching for secrets in those areas). The game had no lack of innovation, it just had a lack of appeal, at least for me anyway. Playing it just felt more like work than fun for some reason.

I really like the atmosphere but the game is just too long. If it had been condensed the intensity would never have mutated into monotony. Around half the length would've been much better - all the innovation without the filler levels.
