Please forgive me if this has been asked and explained before. The reason I'm asking without looking too much is because I don't really know what I'm looking for! Embarassed

I wonder if someone can explain to me in fairly simple terms what the limitations are regarding the audio format and playback in W3D. What I mean is; if it's MIDI and it's played on whatever soundcard I have why is it so limited compared to, say, Doom? I don't mean that in a disparaging way - I actually prefer the sounds in W3D and I prefer the version of the Doom tunes in Klooni to the original Doom games.

I'm presuming there's a limit in channels numbers and sound quality because of memory restrictions of the day but I've a feeling there's a little more to it than that... Somehow Wolf tunes sound a little more 'chip-tuney' than MIDI to me - is that just to do with the sound font file resolution/bit rate?

I hope this post makes sense. I just want to understand why I find this music so charming. I genuinely love the Absence SDL soundtrack as 'proper' music and while listening it just got me thinking, that's all. Smile

PS: Is there an easy way to rip music tracks from Wolf mapsets? I'd love to be able to rip some games and convert them to MP3's...

Thanks very much for the links with the info... I've got some homework to do now! Thanks, also, for the WDC and AdPlug links. Smile
