I now ask for help with mapping...
No, not "Can you make maps for me?" I just need help/advice on making maps myself.
I know how to use Chaos Edit, and that's not the problem, it's starting a new level from scratch, or building upon and editing an old one to make it new. I just seem to not have any ideas, or just don't know where to begin. I have read the "wolf3d for Dummies" guide, and it is very good, and I learned a lot, but I can't seem to use what I've learned at all. The project I have been working with for like 4 years now, SS, is not even close to being done. I have 1 map made. Level 9 is just the original level 9, but with added objects and different wall textures. So I have 8 more to go (there's only 10 levels in SS). I'm trying to use the original start's on maps, with part of the original in it, but change almost everything around it.

So what I'm asking is,

What the Hell do you think I should do?

Maybe this can help you. Playing other mods/mapsets can help at times, as long as you don't directly copy it. Mr Green Otherwise, just try to think of the vision you had for the mod. I'm sure you had a certain idea for the mod, what kind of environments it takes place in etc.

What exactly is the goal of each map? What sort of mapping design are you going for? When you know the answers to these questions, it's easier to figure out what should be put in each room. Smile

Thanks guys,

Well the first 9 levels are in a prison, the 10th level is too, but it's an underground floor, that no one has been to for years (you'll understand, somewhat, when you see it)
So the first 9 have an episode one feel, level 10 has more of an episode two feel. I'm going to get this thing done I swear!

Thanks again Smile

You can divide the prison theme in sections as well: holding cells (perhaps where the important prisoners are held there will be more guards), torture chambers, prison offices, execution areas etc. It can help when you know what exactly you want to show. It might also be useful to think of certain traps you want to put the player in. Mr Green
